Birmingham City's League One promotion rivals Wycombe Wanderers are set to lose manager Matt Bloomfield to Championship outfit Luton Town.

While many neutrals expected Blues, Huddersfield Town and promoted Wrexham to be operating towards the top of the League One table at this stage of the campaign, fewer observers predicted that Wycombe would be in the thick of it.

Bloomfield has guided the Chairboys, who knocked Championship Portsmouth out of the FA Cup on Friday night, to 51 points from their 25 league matches. While Blues have games in hand and are a couple of points ahead at this stage at the summit, Wycombe remain contenders for promotion.

Since the opening of the January transfer window, though, they've lost both loanees Caleb Taylor - who has been recalled by West Bromwich Albion - and Aaron Morley - who has been summoned back by Bolton Wanderers - while their other regular centre half, Wales international Joe Low, is the subject of interest from Swansea City.

Now Wycombe have suffered a further blow in the middle of an otherwise exciting season with the news that they're set to lose manager Bloomfield. He's all set, according to reports, to take charge of Luton, who haven't picked up having suffered relegation from the Premier League last season. They hover above the Championship relegation zone and it's a half-season of form which has cost Rob Edwards his job.

Paul Trollope and Richie Kyle have both left Luton having taken temporary charge during their FA Cup third round defeat to Nottingham Forest at the weekend. Bloomfield played 557 times for Wycombe, spending his almost his entire playing career there, and guided them to 52 wins in 108 matches in charge.
