Huddersfield Town loanee Tawanda Chirewa reflected on a “bittersweet” debut following his side’s 0-0 draw against Reading.

The 21-year-old was brought straight into the starting lineup for Saturday’s stalemate at the John Smith’s Stadium, with the attacker going on to be replaced in the 66th minute by Josh Koroma.

The recruit from Wolves enjoyed his first experience of playing for Town, but was disappointed that his new side couldn’t come away with a victory.

“I found it a good performance from me, but obviously it was a bit bittersweet that we didn’t get the win, I didn’t get to have some end product like I wanted to. To finish off the losing streak we were on, it’s a good start,” Chirewa told BBC Radio Leeds.

“I feel like my game is about creating chances for other people and for myself. I feel like I had the chance to get some chances and shoot myself, but today it just didn’t come off. I’m hoping next Saturday I can get off the mark, if it’s an assist or a goal, plus hopefully next week we can get the win.

“Coming out here, it was a brilliant atmosphere, and I loved every minute of it.”

The Terriers halted a run of three straight defeats with Saturday’s draw, leaving them fifth in the League One table. Assessing the encounter against the eighth-placed Royals, Chirewa added: “First half we were patient, we were moving the ball side to side and were creating chances, it didn’t come out with a goal.

“Second half, the game changed obviously. They put a lot of pressure on us, and we had to adapt, and that’s how the game panned out.

“Hopefully we could’ve scored a chance, with Freddie’s (Ladapo) at the end, or in the first half. I had a couple of chances, Dion (Charles) had a couple of chances, Cal (Callum Marshall) had a couple of chances, so another day they go in, and hopefully next week we can start this winning streak.”
