Blackburn Rovers head coach John Eustace has been slapped with a misconduct charge by the Football Association following remarks suggesting bias from referee Oliver Langford in the Championship clash at Leeds on New Year’s Day.

Eustace didn't hold back in his criticism of Langford for awarding a late penalty to the leaders, which Pascal Struijk slotted home to put the Whites ahead in the 88th minute.

Despite Blackburn clawing back to secure a 1-1 draw, Eustace was openly critical in the post-match briefing. "I certainly don’t think we would have got (a penalty) if it was at the other end," he remarked.

He also added: "(Leeds are) a fantastic football club, 36,000 fans, the referee’s always under pressure to give a decision. Last minute at Elland Road, it’s kind of expected."

The FA's statement read: "It’s alleged that (Eustace) acted in an improper manner during post-match media interviews by making comments that imply bias and/or question the integrity of a match official and/or are not in the best interests of the game."

Eustace, who recently confirmed United forward Patrick Bamford is on a long list of transfer targets, has been given until Monday to provide a response. Rovers climbed up to fifth in the Championship after easing past Portsmouth in their game in hand in midweek. Eustace's side will be looking to bolster their promotion hopes on Saturday when they travel to Oxford United.
