Blackburn Rovers pay tribute to former player Paul Round
Rovers have paid tribute to former player Paul Round, who has sadly died.
Paul was born in Blackburn and played for St Anthony’s school football team before he was signed up by the club.
He went on to represent the first team for several seasons and was a popular figure around Ewood Park.
His passion for the club remained after retiring from the sport, regularly attending matches to cheer on the team.
Paul was one of the ex-players presented to the crowd in September 2023 as Rovers celebrated their 5,000th league fixture.
He was a valued member of the community and part of a team who helped re-open The Royal Oak pub over a decade ago.
Rovers’ tribute read: “The thoughts of everyone at Blackburn Rovers are with Paul Round's family and friends following our former player's passing.
“A popular figure, Blackburn-born Paul represented the club across several seasons and remained an Ewood regular as a supporter following his retirement from the game.
“Paul was one of several former Rovers who were presented to the crowd to celebrate our 5,000th game against Middlesbrough back in September 2023.
“Our thoughts are with Paul's family and friends at this incredibly sad time.”
Supporters have also been sharing their tributes on social media following the sad news of Paul’s passing.
One wrote: “So sad. A lovely man. Condolences to his family.” Another added: “Such sad, shocking news. A true gentleman who will be missed by many.”
A third said: “Paul was such a lovely man who always spoke to us when we saw him outside Ewood.”
