Mike Williamson admits Carlisle United must give a packed away end “fight and belief” as the Blues try to begin a sorely-needed revival at Fleetwood Town today.

A sell-out four-figure travelling support will back United at the Highbury Stadium (kick-off 3pm) as Carlisle seek crucial points to help start bridging the seven-point gap to safety.

It will be the latest impressive show of support in spite of United’s struggles, the Blues well adrift at the bottom of the table after three straight defeats.

Head coach Williamson, who could give debuts to Paul Dummett and Josh Williams, said the travelling Blue Army can be a big factor in the day – provided the team give them something to shout about.

“It’s been a factor in the past when we've dominated home supports with our noise and numbers,” he said.

“It's a fantastic thing to witness and be a part of.

“We have to give them something – we have to give them that fight and that belief, and we have to threaten [the opposition] goal more than we did last weekend.

“If we can do all that it's a powerful combination.”

Former Birmingham City man Williams could come in at right wing-back while experienced former Newcastle United defender Dummett is in the frame to feature in front of Carlisle's 1,117 travelling supporters.

United’s head coach suggested Dummett could play in any position in the central defensive three.

Asked about Dummett’s likely role, Williamson said: “It’s not so much about earmarking him – it’s looking at our best combinations and our best relationships.

“We've brought Charlie McArthur in, and I thought he did well last weekend, so it's just looking at combinations in terms of making sure that we've got enough strength and pace and power, but also with enough creativity and somebody that can start the attack, someone that understands [that role].

“He [Dummett] can play central, he can probably play on the right too to be honest, he's got that experience.

“Probably not in the wing-back area for us nowadays but anywhere along the back three.”

It could be the first time all ten of Carlisle’s January signings are involved in the squad and Williamson insists the new-look squad can gain the short-term results United sorely need.

“I see a group that's capable of doing that and that's what we're working towards,” he added.

Former United midfielder Harrison Neal is expected to be in Pete Wild's Fleetwood squad. Meanwhile, Blues striker Luke Armstrong is in line for his Motherwell debut against St Johnstone after completing his loan move to the Scottish Premiership club yesterday.
