Mike Williamson says “hard work” and sticking to the plan are the ways Carlisle United can improve their League Two position.

The Blues are preparing for a return to action this weekend against Bradford City.

It sees Carlisle, after last weekend’s postponement against MK Dons, resume their campaign seven points adrift of League Two safety.

United have been busy in the transfer market so far this month in a bid to improve their survival chances.

And a response is also vital in the wake of their last outing – the 1-0 defeat at Tranmere Rovers on January 4 which brought heavy criticism from supporters.

United have 22 games left to save their EFL skins and Williamson, the head coach, highlighted certain aspects of how they would look to move on from the Tranmere loss.

Asked about the way they would respond, he said: “With every belief in what we're doing, and confidence.

“I think as a professional, when you've been in the game, you come off the field and there's nothing too revealing that the manager and the coaches can say.

“The fact [was] it was so clear and evident that against Accrington and Crewe [the previous games which brought a 2-1 win and 3-2 defeat], we were behind for ten, five seconds in the space of the whole games and that's why we're on the front foot and we had so much energy and we were aggressive in our actions.

“The first 20 minutes at Tranmere, we controlled it but then we get our setback and I think that just shows everyone and the lads straight away, that's not acceptable.

“We can't go into games prepared and have a game plan and then come away so quickly.

“There's one way of getting out of it, it's hard work and [the players] certainly have been doing that.”
