Bolton Wanderers confirm managerial appointment 48 hours ahead of Reading trip
Bolton Wanderers confirmed the appointment of new manager Steven Schumacher less than 48 hours ahead of tomorrow's trip to Reading.
The 40-year-old signs a three-and-a-half year deal with the Trotters, replacing Ian Evatt after more than four years in charge.
The Lilywhites leapfrogged the Royals in the League One table in midweek as interim boss Julian Darby oversaw back-to-back wins and Reading continued a run of three successive defeats.
The former Plymouth Argyle and Stoke City boss promotion from the third tier with the Pilgrims in 2023 and was named League One Manager of the Year.
His time at the Bet365 Stadium was more disappointing, as many managers have found at Stoke, finishing 17th after taking over the club in 19th.
Schumacher told the club website: “This means everything to me. It's a fantastic opportunity and I'm really grateful to be given it by Sharon and the ownership group. It's a fantastic club with a rich history and the journey and the project here is something I can't wait to get involved with.
“It's been an interesting career journey for me so far and I'm now at a fantastic club, a club which I believe can go on and do great things this season and in the future."
His first match in charge will be at the SCL Stadium tomorrow, with almost 2,000 supporters travelling down from the North-West.
The Royals, meanwhile, are still reeling from the news that star striker Sam Smith is set to move to promotion-chasing Wrexham.
