How Bolton Wanderers could line up against Wigan Athletic
Wanderers have a chance to end 10 years of hurt against North West neighbours Wigan this weekend.
Ian Evatt’s men enter the game in good form, having won four of their last five matches in all competitions following Tuesday night’s victory against Huddersfield in the Vertu Trophy Round of 32.
The Whites, who have at least one game in hand on the sides immediately above them, could climb back into the play-off places if they can overcome the Latics.
Team news
Bolton have no fresh injury concerns but Evatt still plans to “err on the side of caution” with Jordi Osei-Tutu.
The wing-back has shown encouraging signs since returning from a knee injury but is still building up his minutes.
Scott Arfield has been sidelined with a calf issue and the veteran midfielder is expected to be back in full training next week.
Josh Sheehan is absent with a hamstring problem, while Carlos Mendes Gomes could come into the thinking for Wycombe next week.
Opposition lowdown
Wigan currently sit 19th in the League One table and a point above the drop zone following a tough start to the campaign.
Shaun Maloney’s side were beaten by Chesterfield in the Vertu Trophy on Tuesday night despite goals from Callum McManaman and Joe Hugill either side of half time.
That result made it three successive defeats for the Latics in all competitions, with their last victory coming against Cambridge in the FA Cup second round.
Head-to-head
Wanderers have faced Wigan 49 times in their history, with a record of 15 wins, 15 draws and 19 defeats.
Evatt’s men a narrow defeat at the DW Stadium earlier this year, with Stephen Humphrys getting the decisive goal 20 minutes from time.
Humphrys bagged a brace at the Toughsheet Community Stadium several months prior, with Charlie Wyke also netting twice.
