How Bolton Wanderers could line up against Cambridge United
Wanderers are back on home turf for the first time in 2025 as they host struggling Cambridge United.
Ian Evatt’s men are looking to build on their hard-fought victory at Lincoln in the Vertu Trophy last 16 in midweek, with Aaron Collins getting the decisive goal at the LNER Stadium.
The Whites were beaten 3-1 at Rotherham in their last league outing despite John McAtee’s late consolation.
Team news
Josh Sheehan is back available for selection. The Welsh midfielder hasn’t featured since the win against Mansfield over a month ago due to a hamstring problem.
Eoin Toal is expected to be back in contention next week, although this weekend’s game likely comes too soon for the centre-back.
Chris Forino is “not too far away” from a return to the pitch, while Kyle Dempsey is a longer term absentee.
As for the visitors, Jubril Okedina misses out with an ankle injury which will keep the defender out for another couple of weeks.
Opposition lowdown
Cambridge find themselves 23rd in the League One table and eight points adrift, with four wins to their name since the start of the campaign.
The U’s have lost five successive matches, with their last victory coming against Shrewsbury on December 7.
Garry Monk has added experienced goalkeeper Marko Marosi to his squad ahead of their clash with the Whites.
Head-to-head
Wanderers have faced Cambridge 22 times in competitive fixtures, with a record of nine wins, nine draws and four defeats.
The points were shared when the sides met at the Abbey Stadium earlier this season. Sullay Kaikai nodded home a late equaliser to cancel out Collins’ opener, despite the hosts playing most of the second half with 10 men.
Bolton won 2-0 at the Toughsheet Community Stadium last term thanks to goals from George Thomason and Collins.
