Bookies further cut Carlisle United's relegation odds
Bookmakers have further slashed Carlisle United's relegation odds after the Blues tumbled further adrift of safety.
United's price to go down is now at its shortest all season.
They are 7/5 to sink into the National League for only the second time in their history with bookies William Hill.
Carlisle were 3/1 for the drop only last week but their successive defeats to Crewe Alexandra and Tranmere Rovers have seen their crisis deepen.
League Two's bottom side United are now second favourites to go down, with bookies still preferring Morecambe as the likeliest team to be relegated.
The Shrimps are 4/7 with William Hill despite sitting two points above United in the relegation zone.
Carlisle's odds with a range of bookmakers are similar to those of Harrogate Town, who are 21st and seven points above the Blues having played a game more.
United have 22 games to save their skins in the EFL with their next fixture at home to Mike Williamson's former club MK Dons on Saturday.
Other prices for Carlisle to go down include 6/4 (Bet365) and 11/8 (SkyBet), with the longest odds for United's relegation 13/8 offered by Betfair and Paddy Power.
Third-bottom Swindon Town are priced 7/2 to go down by William Hill, with Harrogate 13/8.
Tranmere, who moved seven points clear of United on Saturday in 20th place, are 8/1 to go down, as are 19th-placed Accrington Stanley, with 18th-placed Newport County 9/4.
Carlisle are now as short as 3/1 (William Hill) to finish bottom of the table. Morecambe are 5/4 favourites to finish 24th out of 24.
Optimism is in short supply at Brunton Park right now but those of a more hopeful nature can now get odds of 33/1 (BetVictor) for the Blues to stage a resurgence and finish in the top half of the table come the end of the campaign.
An unlikely march to the play-offs in the second half of 2024/25 - United are currently 22 points adrift of the top seven - is 1,000/1.
