Bookmakers have already started drawing up a list of contenders for the Carlisle United job.

Shortly after it was confirmed that head coach Mike Williamson had been sacked, bookies JeffBet and BetVictor were quick to offer a list of odds on potential successors.

Carlisle are expected to move quickly to appoint their third boss of the season, and former Bolton Wanderers and Barrow man Ian Evatt has emerged as an early favourite at odds of 1/2 with BetVictor.

A surprise candidate according to JeffBet, meanwhile, is the former Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole, currently a coach at Bristol Rovers. He is 5/2.

United, though, are expected to turn to a more experienced figure than Cattermole to try and lead them to League Two safety over the remaining games of the season.

Those on JeffBet's initial list with more managerial experience in the EFL include ex-Burton Albion boss Dino Maamria (3/1) and former Northampton Town manager Jon Brady (6/1).

Others named by JeffBet include former Rochdale boss Robbie Stockdale (4/1) and ex-MK Dons head coach Dan Micciche (9/2).

Andy Peaks, manager of Tamworth, is 15/2 with former Rangers boss Mark Warburton 10/1 and Bromley's Andy Woodman 12/1.

With BetVictor, meanwhile, ex-Wigan Athletic man Leam Richardson is 6/1 with former Preston North End chief Ryan Lowe 8/1.

Ex-Carlisle boss Keith Curle is listed at 12/1 as is Peter Murphy, the United legend currently in charge at Queen of the South.

John Sheridan, another former United manager, is 16/1, while Paul Simpson is an unlikely 14/1 shot for a return to the hotseat.
