ADAM HINSHELWOOD intends to utilise his York City squad for their FA Trophy trip to Gainsborough Trinity.

With York set to play five matches in their next 17 days, Hinshelwood hopes to gift opportunities to players hoping to break into the starting 11, with the boss eyeing the trip to Gainsborough as an ideal opportunity.

Cameron John and Darragh O'Connor are both set to be involved in some capacity tomorrow afternoon, with both players needing minutes after recovering from long-term injuries.

That will also bring a rest to Marvin Armstrong, who is feeling the effects of a relentless effort in the 1-0 win over Gateshead on New Year's Day.

“We’ve got to look at utilising the squad," Hinshelwood admitted.

"Cam John will definitely get an hour for us, and there will be other players that have been on the bench that we need to utilise.

"It’s a big month and not paying any disrespect to the opposition, but the lads really worked hard and it was one of the highest distances that the lads run against Gateshead.

"We take that into consideration as well, it’s a big month and there could potentially be six more games to go in this month.

"Everyone will be needed and it’s potentially the right time to freshen it up a bit.

“He’ll [O'Connor] be on the bench for us and we’ll try to give him some minutes, he’s probably not ready for even half a game yet.

"We definitely want to try and get him on the pitch and give him some minutes for sure.

“Marvin Armstrong [will be rested], for the amount of running that he has done is above his normal load for Wednesday.

"We’ve looked at it and have looked at what his output has been as of late, and it’s been very high.

"We’ve got to manage that load because we don’t want Marv to pick up anything when we’re sort of overusing him. He’ll be one for sure that we will definitely be resting."

Adam Crookes is also nearing a return for City after a spell out after suffering a hip injury, with the left-back set to be back in training as soon as next Monday.

Hinshelwood confirmed to the Press: “Crookesy was out running today with his boots on, he’s back joining in the with the group as of Monday.

"It’s another big boost for us, Cam John, Darragh O’Connor, back involved and earning some minutes hopefully over the course of this weekend.

"Crookesy's back as well, we’ve got some players coming back in a really important part of the season and during a really big month.

"It’s great to have a big selection and a good amount of players to choose from."

Hinshelwood also provided the latest update on winger Zanda Siziba, who hasn't been involved in a York squad yet this season.

The 21-year-old is still a part of the club, and is recovering from an injury, with the plan to sort out a potential loan move upon his return to fitness.

“He’s still with us he’s just coming back from injury and is getting minutes.

"He’s a player that we will probably look to loan out and get minutes under his belt, we’ve got some good competition in front of him and these young players need to be out playing."
