Boston Celtics NBA Championship parade: Time, Date, TV

With their Game 5 victory over the Dallas Mavericks, the Boston Celtics are your 2024 NBA Champions, breaking a five-and-a-half-year stretch without a championship in the city of Boston, the second-longest drought in the city's history. The Celtics' run to the Larry O'Brien Trophy was one of the most dominant playoffs in recent memory.

Boston lost only three games through all four rounds, and even swept the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals. Oh, and to make that feat even more impressive, the Celtics largely did that without star big man Kristaps Porzingis.

Jaylen Brown was a menace in the Finals en route to Finals MVP, averaging 20.8 points, 5.0 assists, and 5.8 rebounds per game on 44% shooting. Brown's defense also played a massive role as the Celtics held Mavericks' star guard Luka Doncic to 22.2% shooting from three, a career playoff series low for Doncic.

The Celtics had not won a championship since 2008. Here's how to watch their championship parade.

When is the Boston Celtics' championship parade?

The Celtics' parade will run through Boston on Friday, June 21. The parade will start at 11 a.m. local time, according to Boston mayor Michelle Wu.

Why is the parade on Friday?

Waiting nearly a full week for a championship parade seems a bit odd. Normally, most cities want to honor their championship teams ASAP. That's still the case in Boston. The city likely needed to wait until Friday though due to an ongoing heatwave.

On Tuesday, June 18, the city's mayor, Michelle Wu, declared a "Heat Emergency" due to high temperature weather forecasts through June 20. The fact that the Celtics' parade will take place a day after the emergency has been lifted is not likely a coincidence. You can't have fans out in the sun all day celebrating when the temperatures are dangerous. Wu has still made a statement encouraging people to stay hydrated and wear sunscreen for the parade.

As of now, the forecast in Boston during the parade will be low-80's with a possibility of thunderstorms.

How to watch Boston's championship parade:

Although official details regarding the rally's broadcast schedule have yet to be released, NBA TV has historically offered a live stream of past championship parades. Local Boston news stations will likely provide coverage as well.
