Bournemouth vs Tottenham LIVE: Premier League result and final score as pressure builds on Ange Postecoglou

Bournemouth leapfrogged Tottenham in the Premier League table as the Cherries claimed another home scalp and Ange Postecoglou’s side suffered their sixth defeat of the season.

Dean Huijsen’s free header from an early corner gave Bournemouth the lead and Andoni Iraola’s team were more than deserving of their victory, which adds to wins over Arsenal and Manchester City this season. The hosts wasted several chances to add to the scoreline.

By contrast, Spurs barely troubled Bournemouth’s goal and defeat means Postecoglou’s side are winless in the three games since beating Manchester City 4-0 at the Etihad, as their inconsistent campaign continued.

Tottenham could have gone 5th with a win but instead it is Bournemouth who climb to 9th in the table, ahead of Spurs in 10th. Spurs visit high-flying Chelsea on Sunday while Bournemouth go to Ipswich.

Tottenham were outplayed at the Vitality Stadium fell to 10th in the table - with the 4-0 victory at Manchester City their only win in the last six games in all competitions.

Postecoglou went to applaud the away end at full-time but was then involved in an exchange with Spurs supporters. Postecoglou said he received some “pretty direct feedback”, which he said he could not repeat.

Ange Postecoglou has spoken to BBC Sport. He says Tottenham were “not good enough” and said his team make “things difficult for ourseleves”.

“We started well and conceded a really poor goal. It's a difficult place to come when giving the opposition the opportunity to play in the manner they want.

"It's disappointing. It's something we've done consistently and we always pay the price for it.

"We started the second half with more conviction. Always be a tough game here. Don't want to give the opposition a leg up. We've done that in other games this year and paid the price.

"It comes down to us as a collective being a lot more determined to control a game of football and not let the opposition take control."

Dean Huijsen, speaking to Prime Video: “I’m so happy to score my first goal, a special memory. How do you say it in English, a goosebumps moment? Definitely. As a team we all worked hard to get this win. What’s possible this season? First we have to avoid relegation but I think we have a little bit more in us. Maybe we can target a Conference League place.”

On his goal, which came from a corner: “It’s all from the coach. We’ve scored a few set-piece goals from him. It was my job to finish it and I did.”

90+5 mins: Bournemouth have had 23 shots, their most in any game this season. At the other end, Dean Huijsen has been solid.

Dominic Solanke has been so quiet on his return, ever since missing an early chance. A flicked header goes well wide.

Bournemouth 1-0 Tottenham

22:05 , Jamie Braidwood

90+2 mins: Another chance for Bournemouth to wrap this up but Adams sees his shot blocked by Bergvall in the box. There was a shout for handball but Bergvall had his arms tucked in.

83 mins: CHANCE! How have Bournemouth not wrapped this up! Ouattara this time is able to come inside on his right foot, as Spurs struggle to defend. The winger blazes the shot over the bar.

At the other end, Werner can’t keep his cross in play on his left foot.

21:51 , Jamie Braidwood

78 mins: Ouattara’s cross almost finds Evanilson but Spurs can hack the clearance away. Tottenham will make two more changes with Maddison and Bissouma set to be replaced by Bergvall and Werner.

74 mins: Another let off for Tottenham as Forster and Porro cross wires and the goalkeeper shanks his clearance into midfield.

Then Tavernier whistles a shot just wide. What on earth has happened to Spurs? An equaliser looked certain 15 minutes ago. Now Bournemouth are on top and Spurs can’t get out.

NO GOAL! Bournemouth 1-0 Tottenham

21:45 , Jamie Braidwood

73 mins: Spurs get away with it! A risky pass from Forster is intercepted by Adams, who robbed Kulusevksi. Adams saw his shot saved by Forster and it broke to Evanilson, who scrambled in, but he was offside. Let off!

Bournemouth 1-0 Tottenham

21:37 , Jamie Braidwood

65 mins: CLOSE! Maddison puts in another testing inswinging corner that Kepa has to punch away from under his bar. It drops to Porro on the edge of the box and the right back meets the half-volley superbly. A low, skidding effort is palmed away by the goalkeeper.

Bournemouth 1-0 Tottenham

21:33 , Jamie Braidwood

61 mins: Much better again from Spurs, as Maddison goes close. Son finds the clever pass through and Maddison almost pulls something from nothing as he turns and bends the shot towards the far post.

It goes just wide.

Worry for Spurs, though. Davies is down and Postecoglou is already without Romero and Van de Ven. Porro is coming on and Gray is going to have to do a job next to Dragusin.

Bournemouth 1-0 Tottenham

21:30 , Jamie Braidwood

58 mins: Spurs have the ball in the net! Almost an immediate imapct for Son but he’s offside. It’s better from Spurs, though. They won the ball high up the pitch and Kulusevki had a shot saved by Kepa. It broke to Son but he was offside by a yard.

Son is on for Spurs. He takes the armband.

Bournemouth 1-0 Tottenham

21:27 , Jamie Braidwood

55 mins: Son has taken his bib off and is looking like he’s about to come on. You could take off any of Tottenham’s players based on tonight.

But it’s going to be Sarr, apparently.

Bournemouth 1-0 Tottenham

21:26 , Jamie Braidwood

53 mins: SAVE! Chance again for Bournemouth on the break, as Kluivert races around the outside of Udogie. With the angle closing, he blasts his shot straight at Forster.

Bournemouth 1-0 Tottenham

Bournemouth 1-0 Tottenham

20:50 , Jamie Braidwood

33 mins: Just the one shot on target for Tottenham so far. They have the Premier League’s best attack this season, in terms of goals, but are not looking like it so far tonight. Bournemouth have been much more threatening so far.

Huijsen makes an excellent sliding challenge on Solanke to break up a Tottenham attack.

Bournemouth 1-0 Tottenham

20:47 , Jamie Braidwood

31 mins: Bournemouth have the ball in net again... but it’s offside! Still, Bournemouth broke forward so easily after Maddison gave the ball away. Evanilson was able to carry forward but his pass to Tavernier came too late and the attacker was a yard offside.

TOTTENHAM CONCEDE ANOTHER GOAL FROM A SET-PIECE! And it’s the 19-year-old Dean Huijsen with the opening goal!

A brilliant moment for the centre-back, who becomes the youngest player to score for Bournemouth in the Premier League!

But terrible defending from Tottenham! Huijsen was left all on his own at the back post to head past Forster.

Even before then, Tottenham were so sloppy in failing to clear. Bournemouth have punished them.

Ange Postecoglou drops transfer hint over Tottenham’s January plans

19:15 , Jamie Braidwood

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou says the club must make signings in January to strengthen their attacking options.

Postecoglou’s squad has been stretched thin by injuries ahead of a busy run of games and Spurs will travel to Bournemouth on Thursday night without several key players, although Dominic Solanke could be fit in time to face his former side as he recovers from illness.

Tottenham have been without Richarlison and Wilson Odobert for most of the season due to hamstring injuries and although Postecoglou’s side are the Premier League’s top scorers this season the Australian said he is in need of attacking reinforcements.

Ange Postecoglou insists it is premature to write off Son Heung-min

18:55 , Jamie Braidwood

Ange Postecoglou believes it is premature to write off out-of-form Tottenham captain Son Heung-min.

Son has only scored four goals for his club this season and just one from open-play in his last 12 appearances for Spurs.

The South Korea international struggled with a hamstring issue earlier in the campaign and has cut a frustrated figure at times since his return, but Postecoglou backed the 32-year-old to return to his best ahead of Thursday’s Premier League trip to Bournemouth.

“What I do know is, from my own experience, the end comes pretty quickly. It’s not falling off a cliff, but you find with a lot of great players that all of a sudden it’s gone from bang to bang. It’s not a slow deterioration.

“I don’t see that in Sonny, I still think he’s got a hell of a lot of quality and from a physical standpoint, the way he looks after himself, I don’t see his abilities diminishing just due to the age factor at the moment. I don’t see that.”

Ange Postecoglou hits back at critics trying to ‘bring us down’ after Tottenham held

18:35 , Jamie Braidwood

Ange Postecoglou rallied around his players after Tottenham produced a flat display in a 1-1 draw at home to Fulham to lose more ground in the Premier League.

Tottenham have dropped to 8th a week on from a superb 4-0 victory at Manchester City, but Postecoglou vowed to protect his players amid a growing list of absentees.

“It somehow again seems with this club that whatever it is that we do well is then used as a millstone to bring us down at every other opportunity,” he said.

“I guess from my perspective, as I keep saying, it’s really important that we don’t react to any of that and just stay focused.

“I just sometimes feel like, especially the players we’ve got at the moment, they’re just working really hard for this football club to try and progress to where we want to be.

“We’re in good shape, we’re still in good shape. We’re still in a decent position in the league. We’re still in the Carabao Cup, we’re in a decent position in Europe, so it’s about us maintaining our focus on continuing to develop.”

Bournemouth boss an admirer of ‘amazing’ Tottenham

18:15 , Jamie Braidwood

Bournemouth responded to recent back-to-back defeats with victory at Wolves and sit 13th in the table, nine points clear of the relegation zone.

They have beaten both Arsenal and Manchester City at the Vitality Stadium this season, but boss Andoni Iraola is a big admirer of Tottenham - they took six points off the Cherries last season - and expecting another big challenge.

“Their stats are amazing and they are top scorers in the competition,” the Spaniard said. “They have so many threats, especially offensively and they are really good in their position. It’s going to be very difficult.

“The past season we played very well. Even playing well, they beat us 3-1 (at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in December), but I think we played well.

“These games you have to be very good and better than them in the boxes because they are high quality. They are a very good team that I enjoy watching.”

‘Obviously they have beaten City and Arsenal'

17:55 , Jamie Braidwood

Ange Postecoglou on facing Bournemouth:

“Obviously they have beaten Manchester City and Arsenal at their place, so a good challenge. We had a tough game up there last year, we did well and we had a tough game against them here.

“One of those sides where there’s a real consistency in performance and approach. You know that you’re in for a battle, so I’m looking forward to it.”

17:35 , Jamie Braidwood

Ange Postecoglou, speaking yesterday, on his team news:

What is the Tottenham team news?

17:33 , Jamie Braidwood

Ange Postecoglou is hopeful that he may be able to welcome back Dominic Solanke after the striker missed the weekend fixture with Fulham due to illness. Archie Gray should also be available having recovered from a knock, but Guglielmo Vicario (ankle), Micky van de Ven (hamstring), Cristian Romero (toe), Rodrigo Bentancur (suspended), Wilson Odobert (hamstring), Micky Moore (virus) and Richarlison (hamstring) remain out.

What is the Bournemouth team news?

17:32 , Jamie Braidwood

Andoni Iraola confirmed that there are no new fitness concerns within the Bournemouth squad, with Antoine Semenyo back available after suspension. Lewis Cook has been able to train after a muscular problem but a cautious approach is likely to be taken.

Good evening

17:30 , Jamie Braidwood

Bournemouth welcome Tottenham to the Vitality Stadium looking to build on a big away win at Wolves.

Andoni Iraola’s side enjoyed a strange outing at Molineux that saw Justin Kluivert strike thrice from the penalty spot in a 4-2 victory that leaves them eyeing the top half of the table.

Spurs, meanwhile, suffered a set back in a home draw against Fulham as they failed to build on such an encouraging performance against Manchester City.

With the chase for European places fierce in a competitive Premier League season, Ange Postecoglou will be keen to avoid another poor result as the London club travel south.
