Boxer Rhiannon Dixon returns - when and where you can watch her next fight
WARRINGTON’S Rhiannon Dixon is gearing up for a fight return after losing her world-title belt last time out.
The 29-year-old, who is trained by Manchester’s former world champion Anthony Crolla, had the best and worst moments of her blossoming career in 2024.
In only her 10th professional fight, the Great Sankey fighter was crowned the new WBO lightweight champion after outpointing Argentina's Karen Elizabeth Carabajal in Manchester on April 13.
After winning Commonwealth and European gold in her previous two fights, she was able to call herself a world champion after winning the belt left vacant by Irish superstar Katie Taylor.
But the former St Gregory’s High School student only had the belt in her possession for five months.
Dixon was defeated in her first defence when she faced the experienced Terri Harper at Park Community Arena in Sheffield on September 28.
It is a setback that Dixon has admitted has taken some shaking off, but she is feeling good and ready to get back in the ring.
Dixon will be on the Matchroom NXTGEN card at Planet Ice in Altrincham on Friday, March 28, when GB Olympian Pat Brown will make his professional debut backed by an army of support.
"The last time out against Terri Harper was my worst ever performance,” said former pharmacist Dixon.
“I feel like I've got a point to prove now. I'm excited to get back out there in front of a local crowd.”
Her world-title shot came pretty quickly on the back of other title success and she said some lessons have been learned.
"I think we just took each opportunity as it came. The Commonwealth, European and then World title. We couldn't say no,” said Dixon.
“Obviously we're both so new to it - me coming from white collar and Anthony is a new coach.
“We had a lot to learn and we sat down and went through everything. It was a sad time.
“We're through it now and we'll be back better."
Dixon’s opponent in Altrincham is yet to be announced.
The night’s action will be streamed live worldwide on DAZN.
