Boxer and Watford Women star at event to inspire girls in sport
A professional boxer and Watford FC Women star were among the guests at an event to inspire girls and women in sport.
Watford Football Club's Community Sports and Education Trust hosted the Women and Girls in Sport event at the club's training ground.
Female secondary school pupils from Bushey Meads, Longdean, Whitefriars, Townsend, and The Reach Free attended the event.
The morning was filled with activity stations, including football and a wellbeing workshop by Hertfordshire Mind Network.
After lunch, the pupils listened to guest speakers, including Watford professional boxer Shannon Ryan, Watford FC Women's Anna Filbey, Chloe Wozniak from Herts FA, and PC Dani Howlett Bolton from Herts Constabulary.
Frances Lynn from the Hornets’ supporters’ group, Women of Watford FC (WOW), also spoke.
The event concluded with a visit from Watford FC men's first-team squad members Tom Dele-Bashiru, Imran Louza, and Kwadwo Baah, who posed for photos and awarded the stars of the day.
The day was organised as part of the Trust’s Premier League Inspires programme, which uses the appeal of football to help children and young people aged 11-18 develop personal skills and positive attitudes.
Lucy Tearle, the Trust’s community projects manager for young people, said: "The Premier League Inspires programme continues to allow us to engage local secondary schools and support pupils, away from their typical curriculum and academic study.
"It has been great to host this event at Watford FC's training ground with so many fantastic speakers and guests in attendance.
"Today, we've been able to highlight our dedication and passion for ensuring that all young females have access to sporting opportunities and expand their knowledge of future pathways available to them."
The Women and Girls in Sport event was part of Watford FC's ongoing commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion, building on earlier campaigns such as 'Women at The Game' Week.
