New Huddersfield Town signing Dion Charles believes that the club’s style of play will suit him “down to the ground” as he aims to turn chances into goals.

The striker joined the Terriers from fellow League One outfit Bolton Wanderers yesterday, with the 29-year-old penning a two-and-a-half year deal with his new club.

Charles is Town’s third signing of the January transfer window, following Ruben Roosken and Joe Taylor in joining the club this month.

Town have bolstered their frontline this window in a bid to improve their chance conversion and the new recruit expressed confidence that he will score goals if his teammates provide him with “service”.

Upon sealing his move, Charles told HTTV: “I’m delighted to be here. Walking around this stadium and stuff today, it shows how big of a club it is, and I can’t wait to get out there and show what I can do.

“The style of football I think suits me down to the ground, and I feel it will get the best out of me, where I’m at in my career. They’ve created so many chances, I’m a player that relies on service, and hopefully it all goes well.

“Speaking to the gaffer, he made it clear why he’s bringing me to this great football club, and it’s to score goals. I back myself to do that [if I’m] given the opportunities.

“I’m looking forward to it. I’m a player that likes to work hard, and leave nothing out there on the pitch, so I can’t wait to get going.”

Charles has opted to sign for the Terriers following a three-year spell at Bolton, where he netted 57 goals in 149 appearances. The forward reached the 20-goal mark in each of the past two seasons, and has scored eight goals in 29 games so far this term.

Charles reflected positively on his time with the Trotters, but the forward acknowledged that it was the right time to seek a fresh challenge.

“I’ve got a point to prove,” he said. “This season I’ve probably not played as much as I wanted, that’s a deciding factor in why I’ve chosen to come here, so I’m looking forward to it.

“I felt like it was time to move on from Bolton. I’ve loved every minute at Bolton, I’ve had probably the best moments of my career there, obviously scoring and winning at Wembley, and things like that. I’m here now, and I’m looking forward to working hard, and getting this club back to where it needs to be.”

The former AFC Fylde, Southport and Accrington Stanley forward joins a side that are eager to secure promotion out of League One this season, with Town sitting fourth in the division heading into this weekend’s clash at Blackpool.

Charles recognised that the Terriers are well placed to achieve their aim at present, and the striker spoke of the importance of his side showing togetherness as they look to seal a return to the second tier.

“From the outside looking in, nobody wants to play Huddersfield at the minute,” the forward said.

“They’re on a tremendous run, and knowing the gaffer, his teams are always set up well and they’re always difficult to play against. It’s brilliant to come here.

“We’re all here for the same common goal, we want to get promoted. We want to get back into the Championship, and then maybe into the Premier League, where this club was. We’ve all got to buy into it together, and help each other, and then we can go the right direction.”
