Breaking: Aston Villa confirm fifth transfer arrival after Chelsea deal struck
Aston Villa have completed the loan signing of Axel Disasi from Chelsea.
The 26-year-old joins on a straight loan deal worth around £5m, with no buy option attached. Chelsea reluctantly accepted the centre-back’s request to join Villa after he refused to join Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs struck an agreement with Chelsea to bring him in on loan over the weekend, but Disasi insisted on joining Villa instead having agreed terms last month. Chelsea view Villa as a direct rival for Champions League football this season, so they had set a high asking price for the loan.

Disasi was not included in Chelsea’s squad to face West Ham at Stamford Bridge on Monday night as his future was still up in the air this afternoon, before Villa found a breakthrough in talks with Chelsea.
The France international has only played six Premier League games this season and made three starts. The Blues kept four clean sheets and won four games with Disasi in defence.
He captained Chelsea on several occasions in the Europa Conference League league phase, which Enzo Maresca’s side appear bound to win this campaign.
Disasi is the fifth signing Villa have made in the winter window following the arrivals of Donyell Malen, Andres Garcia, Marcus Rashford (loan) and Marco Asensio. Villa have an option to make Rashford’s stay permanent in the summer for £40m, while PSG are thought to be open to extending Asensio’s loan into next season.
