Breaking: Aston Villa sanction £8.5m transfer and press on with new signing
Aston Villa centre half Diego Carlos has finally left the club on a permanent basis in this January transfer window.
It's been touted since the summer that Brazilian Carlos, who signed for Steven Gerrard in the summer of 2022, could leave; the Sevilla signing, who Villa agreed to part with £26m for in order to bring to Birmingham, had 18 months left on his contract, but they've bid farewell with the defender destined for Turkey.
There was some doubt about whether Carlos' move to Fenerbahce might materialise, but manager Jose Mourinho made it clear he wanted to bring the centre half to the Super Lig and the deal has finally been struck by all parties midway through the winter window. It's claimed that the deal will bank Villa about €10m (£8.5m).

Villa, who are already without Pau Torres who is sidelined with a foot injury for some weeks yet, currently have Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa as their genuine first choice centre back options, while Unai Emery also has young Lamare Bogarde in the short term, although the Lions are preparing to be active in the remainder of this window.
Loic Bade, who has previously had an unsuccessful spell in England with Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest, has been playing for Sevilla since and is on Villa's transfer wishlist this month. The Spanish club are willing to sell, but Villa have not yet met their asking price.
Villa have also brought in young right-back Andres Garcia to the club from Levante in Spain and teenage centre-back Yasin Ozcan from Kasimpasa in Turkey.
