Breaking: Birmingham City CEO Garry Cook steps down for 'personal reasons'
Birmingham City have announced that Garry Cook has stepped down from his position as chief executive due to personal reasons.
Cook, formerly CEO of Manchester City, has been in the job since July 2023 when American investment firm Knighthead Capital Management took control of the club. Jeremy Dale, who brokered Knighthead's takeover deal, will assume Cook's responsibilities on an interim basis.
A club statement said: "The Board has accepted Garry’s decision which he has made for personal reasons but are pleased to confirm that he has agreed to remain a member of the club’s Advisory Committee.

"He will also continue to serve as a trustee of the Birmingham City Foundation, ensuring that the organisation continues to benefit from his expertise and commitment to advancing its mission. The club extends its deepest gratitude to Garry for his leadership and numerous contributions, including enhancing the club’s infrastructure and fostering positive experiences for fans and colleagues."
Blues chairman and Knighthead co-founder Tom Wagner said: “We thank Garry for everything that he has done during his time as Chief Executive Officer. His passionate leadership and commitment to the club that he has supported from boyhood has been unwavering and his contributions are extensive.
"The instrumental role he played in Knighthead becoming involved in Birmingham City FC should also never be forgotten. We are delighted that he will remain connected to us via the Advisory Committee and Foundation and that both will benefit from his vision and expertise.”
