Liverpool forward Jayden Danns has completed a loan move to Sunderland. The Championship side confirmed the deal a day after the deadline passed, but revealed an injury complication.

There was lots of competition for Danns, and Liverpool was only willing to sanction a loan move late in the window, following a congested period of fixtures and the risk of potential injuries to more senior forwards. Sunderland ultimately got a deal done, but the medical showed an injury issue for the youngster himself, meaning he will remain at the AXA Training Centre for the time being.

Routine tests completed as part of the deal showed that Danns is carrying a back injury. Following dialog between the two clubs and the player, it was agreed that he should complete his rehabilitation under the eye of Arne Slot and his staff, before joining up with Sunderland for the remainder of its push for Premier League promotion.

"Jayden is an extremely talented player, who fits the profile we were searching for," said Kristjaan Speakman, sporting director at Sunderland. "His availability was always going to be determined late in the window due to Liverpool’s schedule and the demand for him was high, so we worked extremely hard to secure the player.

"It’s unfortunate that the medical process highlighted an issue that ultimately requires Jayden to take a period of rest. Despite this, he remained highly motivated to come to Sunderland and as such we agreed to collaborate with Liverpool to ensure there is an opportunity for him to join us at a later date.

"We remain excited by the prospect of working with him and look forward to supporting him throughout the upcoming period."

Danns has made four appearances under Slot so far this season, including most recently in the Champions League against PSV. He made his breakthrough last season under Jurgen Klopp, impressing in the League Cup final before bagging an FA Cup brace.

Reflecting its continued confidence in the player, Liverpool agreed a new long-term deal with Danns before sanctioning his loan move to Sunderland. His next steps now will be rehabilitation at the Reds' training base.

Meanwhile, he is bound to be keeping a close eye on his new loan club. Sunderland pulled off a vital 3-2 win over Middlesbrough last night in a North-East clash, keeping hopes of automatic promotion very much alive — this match is thought to be one of the reasons why an announcement of Danns' transfer was ultimately delayed.

The medical situation no doubt held things up too. But the eventual deal looks to be promising for all parties, and Danns will be itching to get fit as soon as possible.

Liverpool.com says: It's a mark of how much Sunderland must rate Danns that it opted to move ahead with the loan despite the injury. It will only have the services of the Liverpool striker for a matter of months, and will be having to integrate him amid an intense promotion push, yet it still clearly feels he is worth having on the roster.
