Man City opponents in Champions League play-off round confirmed with blockbuster tie
Manchester City will face Real Madrid in the Champions League play-off round next month.
Pep Guardiola's side left it late to book their place in the play-off round. Despite taking seven points from a possible nine from their opening three European outings this season, City failed to win any of their next four Champions League games and were staring down the barrel of European elimination ahead of Wednesday's clash with Club Brugge.
City overcame a rocky start to the game to record the three points needed at the Etihad and they will now face Real Madrid in the play-off round.

The first game of the two-legged play-off tie will be played at the Etihad on either February 11 or February 12 with the second leg to be played at the Bernabeu on either February 18 or February 19. The exact dates are set to be determined later on Friday.
If City can successfully navigate their way through the two-legged play-off tie they will qualify for the last 16 of the competition where they will face either Atletico Madrid or Bayer Leverkusen. The draw for the last 16 will be made on 21 February.
Liverpool, Barcelona, Arsenal, Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, Lille and Aston Villa are the eight sides already in the hat for the round of 16 having finished in the top eight of the revamped 36-team league table.
