Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has revealed that Rodrigo Bentancur suffered a concussion during the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg with Liverpool on Wednesday.

The match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium had to be halted for nearly ten minutes when Bentancur went down in a heap after trying to meet a corner with a diving header. The Uruguayan was stretchered off the field with a head injury and it was later confirmed that he was conscious and at hospital.

The substitution did not go down as a concussion sub, which would have allowed Spurs to make one extra change in the match, but it has since been revealed it was indeed a concussion.

Postecoglou said: "It looks like a concussion but nothing more than that. He was in the hospital, obviously, and they did all of the tests in terms of checking, making sure everything is okay.

"And all good. He is back home. He is fine. He is feeling good. We'll obviously follow the protocols now. I think it is a couple of weeks where you have to make sure everything is okay."

Bentancur posted to Instagram in the aftermath of the game, telling fans: "All good guys! Thank you for the messages!!! Congratulations [for] the victory boys!!!"

A concussion injury means the midfielder will now be missing from action for two weeks, as per FA guidelines. That means Bentancur will miss this weekend's FA Cup tie with Tamworth and the North London Derby against Arsenal next Wednesday night.

The Uruguayan will also miss the trip to Goodison Park to face Everton next weekend but could be back for the Europa League clash against Hoffenheim on Thursday, January 23.
