Brenden Aaronson backup option makes his case as Leeds United receive two injury boosts
Leeds United are in the hat for the fourth round of the FA Cup but not without a fight first from League Two Harrogate Town on Saturday.
The Whites were left frustrated in the first half with the game goalless, having had large amounts of possession but lacking creativity. A Largie Ramazani header from a Manor Solomon cross was enough to see the hosts through in the end.
Leeds also had two injury boosts with long-term absentees Ilia Gruev and Junior Firpo coming on as substitutes. Isaac Schmidt and Josuha Guilavogui were also handed their first starts for the club, with the duo seeing out the 90 minutes.

Squad bolstered
There were loud cheers as Gruev and Firpo made their long-awaited returns. Firpo’s intentions were clear, looking to attack when he could and often running into the box when the ball was out wide.
Gruev only got a few minutes but his return further bolsters midfield options. Leeds are stacked in the centre of the park and at full-back, giving Farke a vast array of options and perhaps giving him the strongest squad in the league.
Schmidt and Guilavogui long-term plans
Isaac Schmidt and Josuha Guilvaogui were both handed their first starts and performed at varying levels. Guilavogui was played at centre-back to allow Ethan Ampadu to play in midfield.
He looked out of sorts at times and was fortunate not to give away a penalty. Schmidt did considerably better. While comfortable on the ball, he lacked the final pass when Leeds needed it.
The truth is Leeds are steeped in such quality in both full-back and midfield areas, there are questions over what long-term role each full debutant will have under Farke.
Silky Solomon
Solomon was played as the number 10 with Brenden Aaronson on the bench and was very productive. There have been questions over who is the back-up to Aaronson in attacking midfield and Solomon has shown himself to be an option.
The cross for his assist was superb but was far from the only good ball he put in on the night. He linked play well and was one of few players who provided creativity in the first half.
The jury is out on whether he can do such a role against more esteemed opposition but, as for Saturday, he did suitably well. That said, the need for a new number 10 is still present.
The striker question
Mateo Joseph started his third match since November 9 and struggled to take the openings he found against Harrogate. Farke has indicated that Joel Piroe’s setback is not major, which will come as a relief to supporters.
With Patrick Bamford out for four weeks, Leeds cannot afford for Piroe - top scorer with 10 goals - to be sidelined given the shortage of numbers that would occur in that position.
