Brentford reject £18m Nottingham Forest bid for Yoane Wissa
Brentford have no intention of selling Yoane Wissa this month, after Nottingham Forest made a bid of around £18 million with add-ons for the striker.
Forest’s bid fell way short of the price that would be required to sign Wissa, who effectively has 2½ years remaining on his Brentford contract.
Telegraph Sport revealed last week that Forest had made Wissa their leading January target and it is understood that they remain keen on signing him, despite the failure of their initial proposal.
Wissa has been in excellent form this season, scoring 11 goals in 19 Premier League appearances for Thomas Frank’s side.
The 28-year-old’s Brentford contract expires in the summer of 2026 but the club has the option of extending the deal by another 12 months.
Forest’s move for Wissa comes amid growing uncertainty over the future of Taiwo Awoniyi, who has attracted interested from West Ham United.
Forest want to strengthen their frontline as they look to continue their remarkable campaign under Nuno Espírito Santo. After 22 games, Forest are third in the Premier League and level on points with second-placed Arsenal.
Wissa has been a key player for Brentford since moving from French side Lorient in a deal worth around £8 million in 2021. The DR Congo international can play on either flank or as a central striker.
Meanwhile, Brentford are interested in signing Fiorentina right-back Michael Kayode. The 20-year-old, an Italy youth international, is regarded as one of the nation’s most exciting defensive prospects.
Brentford have been desperately unfortunate with injuries in the full-back position, as Scotland international Aaron Hickey has missed 14 months with a hamstring problem.
Hickey is now nearing a return, though, having said earlier this month that he hopes to join first-team training “in the next few weeks”. The 22-year-old recently signed a contract extension, keeping him at the club until 2028.
