Arsenal have the chance to close the gap between themselves and Liverpool to three points later today when the Gunners take on Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League.

Gabriel Jesus, Mikel Merino, and Gabriel Martinelli all got on the scoresheet as Arsenal beat Brentford 3-1 on New Year's Day, with the victory moving the Gunners to second in the Premier League. Next up for Mikel Arteta's side is a trip to the south coast to take on Brighton.

The last meeting between the two saw Arsenal held to a 1-1 draw at the Emirates, where Declan Rice was controversially sent off. The Seagulls enter the clash in underwhelming form, failing to win any of their last seven games. Jurrien Timber will be absent for the trip to Brighton after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season, while none of Arteta's injured players will be returning later today.

So, can Arsenal make it five wins in a row later today? Let's take a look.

We simulated Brighton vs Arsenal to get a score prediction

To complete this simulation, we used EA FC 25 and updated the squads with the latest injuries and suspensions.

We predict that the hosts could line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with their starting XI as follows: Verbruggen; Lamptey, Van de Hecke, Dunk, Estupinan; Baleba, Ayari; Gruda, Rutter, Adingra; Pedro.

We predict that Arsenal could set up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their line-up as follows: Raya; Partey, Saliba, Gabriel, Lewis-Skelly; Rice, Odegaard, Havertz; Martinelli, Jesus, Trossard.

A feisty first-half saw nine yellow cards dished out at the Amex, with Arsenal accountable for five of them as they struggled to grasp a hold of the game. A misplaced pass from Thomas Partey allowed Brighton to go two-on-one with David Raya just before the break, but the Spaniard made one of the saves of the season to deny Simon Adingra from six yards out.

Ethan Nwaneri was introduced off the bench at half-time as Arteta looked to add a creative spark to his attack, and the youngster almost made the perfect impact with his first touch, but with a sliding effort, he could only direct Martinelli's cross onto the post. As the game went on, the Gunners became more frustrated, but in the 88th minute, the deadlock was finally broken.

A Brighton corner was headed clear by William Saliba to the feet of Tyriq Lamptey on the edge of the box, but the defender failed to get the ball out of his feet, allowing Jesus to steal possession and surge forward. The striker ran the entire length of the pitch before entering the box, and the Brazilian wrapped his foot around the ball to curl a wonderful strike into the far corner to make it 1-0.

Partey almost made it 2-0 in the 94th minute when he met Declan Rice's corner at the front post, but his flicked effort was pushed over the bar by the 'keeper. The miss didn't prove costly however, with Arteta's side holding out for a big three points on the south coast.
