'Brilliant' - Alan Shearer names 'standout' Manchester United player vs Liverpool
Alan Shearer has named Diogo Dalot as his standout Manchester United performer from their 2-2 draw against Liverpool on Sunday. Ruben Amorim's side were impressive as they held the runaway leaders at Anfield.
After an even first-half, Lisandro Martinez gave United the lead just after the break. The Argentine was fed inside the box by Bruno Fernandes and drilled the ball high into the back of the net beyond Alisson.
However, United's advantage lasted just seven minutes. Cody Gakpo equalised for Liverpool, cutting inside onto his right foot before hammering home an effort into the top corner, giving Andre Onana no chance.

Liverpool looked to have turned the game on its head midway through the second half. After Matthijs de Ligt was judged to have handled the ball in the area, Mohamed Salah stepped up from the penalty spot to fire the home side in front and put them on course for a fourth successive win.
But United responded and levelled through Amad. who swept the ball home from eight yards to send the travelling supporters into delirium. In fact, Amorim's men could have nicked it late on, as Harry Maguire had a golden chance in the 97th minute, but he spooned his shot over the crossbar.
Nevertheless, it was a thrilling encounter and United were much-improved in comparison to recent weeks. That was noticed in the post-match analysis, with former Newcastle forward Alan Shearer quick to praise United and Dalot in particular after the Portuguese right-back excelled against Liverpool.
Dalot had 88 touches - the second most in a United shirt, had five touches in the opposition box, made 12 passes ending in the final third and completed four open play crosses. Dalot also won the ball back eight times.
Shearer said on BBC's Match of the Day 2: "There were so many impressive performances: [Kobbie] Mainoo, Fernandes, Martinez, but the standout for me was Diogo Dalot down that left-hand side.
"Trent [Alexander-Arnold] has had so many impressive games this season but today certainly wasn’t one of those and Dalot got the better of him 99 per cent of the time.
"This (dribbling past him) was his attention all of the time. Everything he did defensively, particularly going forward was so positive, he was always thinking how I am going to hurt you by going in behind.
"He was always going to win that individual battle. 1v1 he knocked it past Trent, he felt so comfortable, another brilliant ball with the left foot and he deserved someone to get on the end of it. He did so much damage today and was outstanding. They dominated Liverpool on that side of the pitch and caused loads and loads of problems."
Speaking on United's performance as a whole, Shearer said: "That was a really, really impressive display from Manchester United. What I would say that has to be the norm now, the standard, they have to show that effort and that attitude and that performance.
"We’ve all seen what they can do, it needs to happen every single week because they were superb."
