Bristol City player ratings vs Coventry City as Reds suffer first Championship defeat of 2025
Max O'Leary - 6
Didn't have an awful lot to do and would have scared supporters when he dropped a Coventry corner early in the second half. Will be disappointed to be beaten at his near post, but the opening goal had so much power on it he would have done well to keep it out.

Luke McNally - 6
Having battled well in the first half, it was far too easy for Brandon Thomas-Asante to drift past McNally for the opener. The City defender was slow to react and couldn't cut out the pass or close down his man. Unfortunately, he had a good game until that point.
Rob Dickie - 7
Produced some important blocks in the first half to keep the home side at bay. Battled away with Simms throughout the contest and for the most part came out on top. Such an important presence to have at the heart of the backline and keeping him fit is a must.
Zak Vyner - 6
Went about his business well enough as he did what he could against Simms and Thomas-Asante. Wasn't quite as commanding as his two defensive partners and misplaced a couple of long passes that went against him.
Haydon Roberts (off for Yu Hirakawa, 85')- 5
Kept his place with Cam Pring sidelined and perhaps showed why some are still unsure of his position at left wing-back. Got caught on the wrong side of the ball a few times in the first half as Milan van Ewijk beat him down the line.
Jason Knight - 6
The captain wasn't quite his usual self. He did work hard off of the ball and got involved where he could, but lacked the cutting edge he's shown in recent weeks on the ball. One or two loose passes slowed the game down at times. Perhaps the busy schedule caught up with him.
Max Bird (off for Joe Williams, 85') - 6
Back in the team after a rest in the FA Cup and he did exactly what he always does. Played some neat passes when he got the ball but his finishing was erratic when he got into the final third. Like a lot of his teammates, didn't quite hit the level he has done over the last month.
Ross McCrorie (off for Mark Sykes, 64') - 6
Got the better of Jay Dasilva early on at the CBS Arena, but his influence on proceedings in an attacking sense faded as the game wore on. Though he didn't do anything wrong whatsoever, he also couldn't produce the moment of quality needed to unlock the defensive line in what was a standard McCrorie performance.
Anis Mehmeti (off for Sam Bell, 64') - 5
Could have and probably should have broken the deadlock inside the first few minutes when the ball got caught under his feet. Was guilty of not getting his head up when he got into the final third and opted to shoot on a couple of occasions when he could have passed. Was brought off after a frustrating afternoon.
Scott Twine - 5
Like Mehmeti, the game appeared to pass Twine by for much of the afternoon. The Robins struggled to maintain possession and that limited his involvement in the game. Carried his usual threat from set-pieces but didn't produce much of note at all.
Nahki Wells (off for Sinclair Armstrong, 78') - 5
The Bermudian international should have opened the scoring early on when he was slipped through by Mehmeti. He was only denied by a good save from Oliver Dovin but would have fancied his chances. Didn't link up play as we know he can before being replaced.
Substitutes:
Mark Sykes - 6
Added some much-needed pace down the right wing and arguably should have come away with an assist.
Sam Bell - 6
His pace caused plenty of problems and on another day, he would have opened his account for the season.
Sinclair Armstrong - 6
Joe Williams - N/A
Yu Hirakawa - N/A
