Just a matter of days after they were last on the road, Bristol City are once again on their travels as they make the trip north to face Sheffield Wednesday this evening.

Liam Manning's Robins make the journey to Hillsborough to face Danny Rohl's Owls as they look to get back to winning ways in the Championship and end a six-match winless run away from Ashton Gate.

After a mixed start to the campaign, Wednesday's form has picked up as the season has worn on and they currently sit 11th in the table, level on points with City with only goal difference separating the two sides.

With such a quick turnaround between games, Manning is expected to have much of the same squad to pick from again this evening. Both Joe Williams and Sinclair Armstrong returned to the fold against the Sky Blues and there is a chance Marcus McGuane could also be named in the squad.

Of course, Saturday's clash with Blackburn Rovers will also be in the back of the City boss' mind when he picks his team to face the Owls, as the games come thick and fast in the Championship. However, the priority will be securing three points tonight.

With that being said, here's how we think Bristol City will start at Hillsborough this evening...

Goalkeeper and defence

Some will have almost certainly suggested Max O'Leary could have done more to stop Coventry's opener as Brandon Thomas-Asante's strike went in at the near post, but it was so well struck that he was always unlikely to keep it out. He will of course start again between the posts at Hillsborough.

Ahead of him, our bet is that Manning will stand by the same back three that have begun the majority of matches over the last few months. Luke McNally will be deployed on the left, Zak Vyner will start on the right and Rob Dickie will begin between the two of them at the heart of the defence.

Although the centre-backs' work in possession was nowhere near the level required in the Midlands at the weekend, they actually handled Ellis Simms and Thomas-Asante reasonably well for much of the game. For the most part, they have been consistent and it would be a surprise to see Manning make a change at this stage.

The only obvious alternatives would be if George Tanner or Kal Naismith started instead. The latter is still yet to feature having returned from injury earlier this month and we don't think the former will be deployed in the back three as we believe he could feature in a different role in the starting line-up.

Midfield

Perhaps one of the biggest areas of debate following Saturday's loss against Lampard's side was at full-back. Neither Ross McCrorie nor Haydon Roberts had their best afternoons at the CBS Arena, with both players coming in for some criticism from supporters after the full-time whistle.

On the right, our bet is that Tanner will start at right wing-back. Manning has tended to rest and rotate McCrorie and Tanner since they've returned from injury and Wednesday night feels like the perfect time to hand the latter a start. Of course, Mark Sykes could feature there instead having returned from injury, but we think he's more likely to come off of the bench again as he continues to build up his match minutes.

On the left, however, it seems likely that Roberts will keep his place as Cam Pring remains sidelined. Elijah Morrison is the obvious alternative but he did feature as a second-half substitute in Bristol City Under-21's win over QPR on Monday and it would therefore be a surprise to see him start another game so soon after.

Between the two wing-backs, Manning finally has some depth to pick from in midfield. Williams is fit again having come off the bench against Coventry, George Earthy is waiting patiently for his chance and McGuane could potentially be available if he's recovered from the concussion that ruled him out on Saturday.

However, we think it will be the tried and tested combination of Jason Knight and Max Bird that start together in the middle of the park. Neither player showed their true quality against the Sky Blues last time out, but they were two of Bristol City's best players over the festive period and as a result, will likely keep their places in the starting line-up.

Attack and striker

This is another area of the pitch in which supporters will likely want to see one or two tweaks to the team. That could well happen at Hillsborough, but history shows that Manning doesn't tend to make many drastic changes to his side, especially with a quick turnaround between games.

Also, while Saturday's defeat to Coventry was poor, it has to be remembered that the Robins had been on an impressive run of form in the league in the build-up to that game. As a result, we think both Anis Mehmeti and Scott Twine will continue in the number 10 positions.

Mehmeti was poor against the Sky Blues, but he has shown on multiple occasions already this season that he can be a difference-maker. He is the Reds' top scorer and has been playing the best football of his City career over the last few months and it would be a surprise to see him dropped after one bad afternoon in the league.

Similarly, Twine has been fairly consistent over recent weeks. His ability from dead-ball situations means that he is a constant asset to have on the pitch and he is probably still the most natural number 10 in the Robins' ranks. The Reds do need to manage him carefully because of the injuries he has had so far in his career at Ashton Gate, but that will be more of a problem against Blackburn than it will be on Wednesday.

Up front, our bet is that Nahki Wells will again lead the line. The Bermudian international should have scored at the CBS Arena and early on he linked up play well. He also needs to be managed, given his age, but he was withdrawn early enough against the Sky Blues to start again this evening.

The only alternatives appear to be Armstrong or Sam Bell, with Fally Mayulu not even included in the matchday squad last time out. Armstrong does offer something different, particularly away from home, but it would be a bold call to throw him straight back in so soon after his return.

Bristol City XI (3-4-2-1): Max O'Leary; Luke McNally, Rob Dickie, Zak Vyner; Haydon Roberts, Jason Knight, Max Bird, George Tanner; Anis Mehmeti, Scott Twine; Nahki Wells
