Lee Cattermole has left his role as a first-team coach at Bristol Rovers after just one week at the club, Bristol Live understands.

The former Sunderland, Middlesbrough and Wigan Athletic midfielder's arrival at the club was confirmed last Thursday just four days before Rovers announced the sacking of Matt Taylor.

Cattermole was classed as a club appointment with "a focus on the developement and implementation of set pieces." He was then placed in interim charge alongside Dave Horseman following the departure of Taylor.

Bristol Live are aware of speculation surrounding Cattermole's position at the club emerging earlier in the week and approached the club for comment. They are due to address the matter in due course.

It is also understood that the 36-year-old was never under consideration for the managerial vacancy.

Horseman will be in interim charge of the Gas until a new permanent manager is appointed.
