When Manchester United held Premier League leaders and fierce rivals Liverpool to a 2-2 draw at Anfield at the start of January, Bruno Fernandes highlighted one of the biggest issues at the club.

United responded to four straight defeats to Tottenham, Bournemouth, Wolves and Newcastle by coming away from Merseyside with a point. A spirited away performance was complete by Amad's equaliser with Harry Maguire inches away from a surprise three points.

Despite the positives from the performance against Liverpool, the immediate aftermath of the match was around United's consistent failure to produce high-quality displays.

Fernandes, speaking openly to Sky Sports after the game, appeared frustrated at the quality of performance against Liverpool. "We've been criticised fairly, we lost too many points. Even today, we can't be happy with the draw," he said.

"I think it's a really good result, we could have even won the game at the end. It's a fair result. I'm upset because if we show this against Liverpool why can't we do this every week?

"Finally I did a proper performance overall. We need much more from ourselves to get more from this season. It's been here but it's not come until today's game." He added: "I will probably be more worried about Southampton after this performance."

Fast forward 11 days and Fernandes' worries were proven right. United were second best for 75 minutes against the Premier League's bottom team and were on course to another defeat at Old Trafford. However, a mixture of quality and luck swayed their way and the Red Devils ended the game 3-1 winners.

Amad scored a 12 minute hat-trick to rescue the victory. Yet despite the jubilation of victory from behind will be overlooked by Amorim and his side following another disappointing 90-minute performance.
