Bruno Fernandes is starting to prove Roy Keane wrong at Manchester United
Bruno Fernandes has found some form in 2025 with a goal and an assist in his last two games helping Manchester United to impressive results at Liverpool and Arsenal.
Only three weeks ago he was sent off as United were beaten by relegation threatened Wolves. In his two games since, Fernandes’ tantalising footwork, fanatics and never say die attitude have been on full display. He has had his critics since taking the armband with Roy Keane’s infamous suggesting the captaincy should be taken off him.
However, Fernandes showed his leadership after the FA Cup win over Arsenal with his praise for goalkeeper Altay Bayindir. “It’s tough to be second goalkeeper," said the skipper. "He came here to play, whenever he gets his chance, he’s top class for us, he’s top class in training, he’s always available for everyone and he truly deserves this moment.”

Fernandes initially seemed somewhat the odd man out in Amorim's new formation as he switched between attacking and central midfield roles with a little difficulty. But with the agile Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte around him he has turned a corner.
He’s dropping deep, plugging gaps in midfield, moving the ball up the pitch quickly and threading the needle higher up when necessary. His total of 59 accurate long balls and 100 recoveries this season are starting to translate into Amiron’s quick, attentive and energetic style of play.
His disguised pass set up Lisandro Martinez for the first goal against the Liverpool and his deft footwork saw him thump in a curling effort against Arsenal following a brutal counter-attacking move. If he continues to perform, Keane might change his tune.
