Bruno Guimaraes has clarified a social media post that sent Newcastle United fans into a short-lived panic over his future shortly after Saturday's 3-1 win in the Premier League. Just moments after helping the Magpies defeat Southampton at St Mary's, the Brazilian hopped online and sent a cryptic message, in his second language, about the future.

"I don’t know what the future holds, but this team will always fight for the best for our club! +3 and see you next week," Guimaraes posted on X shortly after the game.

That post drew understandable concern from Newcastle fans, who raced to try and uncover what the club captain meant. Many, due to the fact the January window is open, were worrying as to whether the message was a thinly-veiled admission of a shock exit on the cards.

However, after receiving a barrage of confusion and unease in his comment section, the Brazilian swiftly followed up with: "Don’t worry guys! I am talking about what happens on the pitch. Thank you again for the support today, see you at St. James’ Park"

Guimaraes lives and breathes this football club and has often let his frustration play out in public after uncharacteristically poor performances. Even the midfielder would probably agree his display in the 3-1 win at St Mary's wasn't his finest, with the Newcastle bench offering their support as he trudged off the pitch in the second-half.

Midfield co-star Sandro Tonali stole the show on the south coast in what was a solid team performance and the perfect way to bounce back from the shock 4-1 thumping at the hands of Bournemouth this time last week. The win saw Newcastle jump up to fourth-place before Chelsea's evening kick-off with Manchester City.
