Brunton Park is set to host a new fun run which will allow children and teenagers take part in one of the city’s top running events.

The Carlisle United Community Sports Trust Fun Run will take place on Sunday, March 23.

The event will take place on the same day as the Run Carlisle half marathon and 10k races.

The CST fun run will be a mile-long run for those aged four to 14.

United’s community sports trust say it promises to be a fun event which also promotes health and wellbeing in young people.

The CST’s chief executive James Tose said: “We are excited to launch the Carlisle United Community Sports Trust Fun Run.

“At CUFC CST, health and wellbeing is at the forefront of everything we do, so this opportunity is fantastic for kids in our community to take part in a fun activity where their families can come down and support them.”

The event has been created through a partnership between the CST and Run Carlisle, and is sponsored by Borderway Finance.

There will be places for 200 runners and entry is £8 per person, with entrants receiving a medal and goodie bag – along with the chance to run with United’s mascot Olga the Fox.

Ian Milburn, Run Carlisle’s event director, added: “We’re now into our sixth year with the Carlisle Half Marathon and 10k. We did the Fun Run for the first couple of years, but it became too much for us to manage.

“Me and James sat down in 2024 and discussed the possibility of getting CUFC CST involved in doing the Fun Run again and here we are.

“We are delighted to have the link with CUFC CST and look forward to a great day.”

Borderway Finance managing director Mike Deans added: “We’re delighted to be able to support CUFC CST and the excellent work they do, inspiring and supporting the development of our community through sport.”

The fun run will get under way at 8.45am on Sunday, March 23. It will begin and end at Brunton Park.
