Bukayo Saka: Arsenal star withdraws from England squad amid injury fears
Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka has withdrawn from the England squad amid injury fears.
Saka, along with Harry Kane, Cole Palmer and Jordan Henderson, did not join his team-mates in training at St George's Park on Wednesday, instead instructed to focus on individual work in the gym.
The fitness concern appears to be considered serious enough to end Saka’s involvement entirely and will now play no part in England's friendlies against Brazil and Belgium.
A statement from the national team read: “Bukayo Saka has left the [England] camp and returned to his club for continued rehabilitation on an injury he reported to St. George's Park with.”
Saka also withdrew from the England squad last September, skipping a friendly with Australia and a Euro 2024 qualifier against Italy.
England host Brazil at Wembley on Saturday before facing Belgium at the same venue next Tuesday in their final scheduled friendlies before Euro 2024.
Arsenal will hope Saka’s fitness concerns will have passed before a huge Premier League title clash with holders Manchester City on March 31. The forward has 16 goals and a further 15 assists in 37 matches this season.
The Gunners currently sit top of the league table, ahead of Liverpool on goal difference and with City one point back.
