Bukayo Saka has vowed to come back "stronger" from his serious hamstring injury and has thanked fans of Arsenal and other clubs for their well wishes.

The winger is expected to be out for at least two months after injuring his leg muscle against Crystal Palace a week ago. Saka immediately flagged to the bench after delivering a cross just over 20 minutes into the match before being flanked by medics as he was taken off the field. He was later seen leaving Selhurst Park on crutches.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta confirmed the 23-year-old had undergone a “procedure” for his injury this week and that it had been a success. But he disclosed that Saka faces a long road to recovery.

Speaking about the England international following Friday’s 1-0 win over Ipswich Town, Arteta said: "I think it will be more than two months. I don't know exactly how much longer.

"It will depend on how the scar tissue starts to heal, the first week or so, the mobility of that. Let's see, it's very difficult to say."

Saka has now sent a message to supporters on social media while sharing a photograph of himself giving the thumbs up in a hospital bed.

Writing on Instagram, he wrote: "The majority see obstacles, but few see the opportunities. Recovery has begun and I’m coming back stronger! Thank you all for your messages. #GodsPlan."

No other Arsenal player has registered more goal contributions than Saka this season, the attacker recording nine goals and 13 assists in 24 matches. Arteta faces a dilemma at right wing with back-up Raheem Sterling also injured.

The Chelsea loanee was initially scheduled to be out for a few weeks with a knee problem. "We have to see this week how he evolves," updated Arteta, whose side faces Brentford on Wednesday, New Year’s Day.

"We probably expected the knee injury to take longer than it has evolved in the last few days. Hopefully that's good news because we need him."

Gabriel Martinelli was chosen to play on the right flank against Ipswich. Ethan Nwaneri and Gabriel Jesus also have the ability to play in the role.
