Burndeners out in force at Witton Park to battle Buncer hill
MORE than 60 Burndeners were a bit further up north this week for the notorious Blackburn Winter Warmer 10K, writes Jen Forkin.
Tough hills and an undulating course awaited as stories of Buncer Hill by the marshals made runners quiver in their shoes.
Buncer demands a climb of a couple of miles before undulating back to the Witton Park track from where it starts.
The race was very well organised race with plenty of marshals and some lovely comments thanking us for bringing so many runners. Burnden was described by one as ‘a breath of fresh air’. The medal, goody bag and snacks were much appreciated too!
First home for Burnden was speedy Suleman Badat in 40:01 followed by Michael Kermode in 42:45 and Gareth Doherty in 43:43.
First lady for Burnden was fast yet humble Francesca Caine who not only achieved 5th overall lady but also 3rd in her Senior Category, as reported by proud dad, Mike.
Phil Fryer did brilliantly in his first racing 10K – bringing home a PB of 46:01 and placing 4th Burnden male.
