Burnley re-sign Blackburn Rovers' arch nemesis before East Lancs derby
Burnley have re-signed Ashley Barnes in time to make his second debut against Blackburn Rovers.
The forward scored twice for the Clarets when Rovers played at Turf Moor in November 2022. He was then charged by The FA for calling Blackburn b******* after the match.
The striker left Burnley at the end of that season having helped them to promotion in 2023. But things have not worked out at Norwich City and his contract was cancelled last night, facilitating a move back to Turf Moor until the end of the season.
He made 49 appearances for the Canaries, scoring seven goals, and now heads back to the North West to help Scott Parker's side in their bid to win promotion back to the top flight.
Barnes can make his debut against Rovers at Ewood Park on Saturday. The forward will get a hostile reception from a sold-out home crowd in what is the club's biggest attendance since 2018.
“It feels fantastic to be back home," the 35-year-old told the club site. Burnley has been a massive part of my life for over a decade, and I can’t wait to pull on the Claret shirt again.
“I know how much this match means to the fans, it means just as much to me. They can rest assured I’ll be giving everything for this club every single time I’m wearing the Burnley badge.”
