Burnley 0-1 Arsenal LIVE! Odegaard free-kick - Premier League result, match stream and latest updates today
Martin Odegaard’s 30th-minute free-kick earned Arsenal their second win of the Premier League season with a 1-0 victory over Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday.
The Norwegian midfielder curled the ball beautifully into the top corner of Nick Pope’s goal, helping take Mikel Arteta’s side on to six points.
The Gunners had to survive some pressure from Burnley after the break and had a scare when referee Anthony Taylor awarded a penalty after Burnley sub Matej Vydra went down under a challenge from Arsenal keeper Aaron Ramsdale.
But when VAR intervened, Taylor went to the pitchside monitor and overturned his decision after seeing footage showing Ramsdale playing the ball.
Burnley remain winless in 19th place with just one point from their opening five matches, while Arsenal are finally beginning to build momentum after their dismal start to the season.

Arsenal team news: Partey starts
Prediction: Arsenal to win
FT: Burnley 0-1 Arsenal
16:53 , Malik Ouzia
A massive win on the road for Arsenal, who had to knuckle down and graft for it.
16:45 , Malik Ouzia
84 mins: Nuno Tavares is on for the Gunners in place of Kieran Tierney, who was down complaining of cramp a few minutes ago.
So far, Arsenal are holding firm.
16:37 , Malik Ouzia
78 mins: Arsenal are right up against it here. You sense this could be a long, long final 15 minutes or so.
16:34 , Malik Ouzia
75 mins: Another change for the Gunners - Ainsley Maitland-Niles is on in place of Thomas Parte, who was making his first start of the season.
16:30 , Malik Ouzia
70 mins: No penalty!
A let-off for Ben White - you’d have to say good goalkeeping from Ramsdale.
16:27 , Malik Ouzia
69 mins: I reckon Ramsdale’s got the ball here. The referee is being called to the pitchside monitor...
Penalty to Burnley!
16:26 , Malik Ouzia
68 mins: Short backpass from Ben White and Vydra nips in to go round Ramsdale and Anthony Taylor points to the spot!
VAR is checking...
16:25 , Malik Ouzia
66 mins: It’s role-reversal!
This time Aubameyang has the chance to slip Pepe in and rather than underhit it, he puts miles too much on it. The winger has no angle to work with and in the end does well to force a corner as Pope shuts the angle.
16:22 , Malik Ouzia
62 mins: Oh, that’s a chance. Arsenal break at pace and if Pepe can just get a bit more weight on the pass Aubameyang is in on goal but he underhits it slightly and the defender slides in to toe it away from the Gunners skipper.
16:20 , Malik Ouzia
61 mins: Burnley are in the ascendancy here and Arteta wants more control - Lokonga is on in place of Smith Rowe.
16:19 , Malik Ouzia
59 mins: Good save!
And almost an instant impact from Cornet, who finds himself in space just inside the box and tries to curl at goal but Ramsdale tips over the bar.

16:17 , Malik Ouzia
The home fans getting loud here and Cornet coming up has ramped up the noise even more. Arsenal digging in well though so far.
16:17 , Malik Ouzia
57 mins: A double change for the home side as Matej Vydra and summer signing Maxwel Cornet enter the fray in place of Barnes and Gudmundsson.
16:12 , Malik Ouzia
53 mins: That’s more like it from the visitors. Saka drives to the edge of the box and finds Aubameyang, who quickly shuffles it on to Smith Rowe.
The midfielder hits it first time but his side-foot effort is straight at Pope.
16:09 , Malik Ouzia
50 mins: Burnley have made a bright start to the second half and the crowd are up. Arsenal only half-clear a corner and Gudmundsson’s strike looks to be heading for the bottom corner until Gabriel makes another crucial block.
Arsenal with their backs to the wall here.
KICK-OFF!
16:04 , Malik Ouzia
We are back underway...
16:03 , Malik Ouzia
Right then, the teams are on their way back out at Turf Moor. Can Arsenal see this through to pick up their second win on the spin?
15:57 , Malik Ouzia
So far you’d say that Mikel Arteta’s got his tactics right because Arsenal’s lack of a second deeper midfielder player has been an irrelevance - Burnley haven’t tried to move the ball through the middle of the park at all.
Simon Collings’ half-time thoughts...
15:51 , Malik Ouzia
Brilliant free-kick from Odegaard to break the deadlock. Arsenal’s passing been a little slow and slightly off, but improved as half went on. Some brilliant defending from Gabriel at points, who seems to be relishing the battle.
HT: Burnley 0-1 Arsenal
15:48 , Malik Ouzia
Martin Odegaard’s wonderful free-kick is the difference at the break.
15:47 , Malik Ouzia
45 mins: Lovely, patient stuff from Arsenal as they move it back and forth across the pitch until Odegaard floats one over to Pepe, who pulls back for Smith Rowe and the midfielder’s snapshot is a yard or two over the bar.
15:44 , Malik Ouzia
43 mins: Into the final couple of minutes of the half then. Not exactly been a thriller but Arsenal have what could be a priceless lead in a tight game.
15:40 , Malik Ouzia
39 mins: What a piece of defending that is. Little more than a cushioned pass over the top for Barnes but the Burnley forward controls and is shaping to pull the trigger until Gabriel dives in superbly to toe it high and clear.
15:40 , Malik Ouzia
38 mins: Having said that, Burnley’s response hasn’t been bad. They still only really look a threat when Arsenal give away free-kicks in their own half that can be hoisted into the mixer, though.
15:36 , Malik Ouzia
35 mins: Bukayo Saka’s causing havoc. He’s too quick for McNeil and then is caught late by Brownhill, who is maybe lucky to escape a ticket as his trailing leg catches the Arsenal man.

This came needed something to spark it into life and Odegaard deliver. What a glorious free-kick. A flare has gone off in the away end now too. Lively times all of a sudden.
GOAL! Burnley 0-1 Arsenal | Martin Odegaard 30'
15:31 , Malik Ouzia
Brilliant!
I said it was a good position and Martin Odegaard agrees. He steps up and curls beautifully over the wall, leaving Pope no chance of getting across from such close-range. Arsenal lead.
15:30 , Malik Ouzia
29 mins: Much better from Arsenal and no surprise that Bukayo Saka is at the heart of it. He’s cynically brought down by Westwood on the edge of the box and the midfieler sees yellow.
Great position this...
15:28 , Malik Ouzia
28 mins: Approaching the half-hour mark and Arsenal’s best spell of the game has still been that first five or six minutes. Burnley have looked increasingly difficult to break down since then.

An Arsenal analyst up in the press box here (they are usually on a call the whole game with Stuivenberg and it’s why he wears an AirPod). Judging by speed he is speaking in Spanish, and how loud he is, not overly happy with pace Arsenal playing out from break.

15:23 , Malik Ouzia
A tweak from Arteta after 20 minutes or so. Smith Rowe has gone out left and Saka has moved into the middle.
15:20 , Malik Ouzia
19 mins: Arsenal aren’t happy as Barnes catches Tierney in the face with a stray hand as the pair challenge for a high ball. Not much in it at all, to be honest, but the forward is the first man into the book.

Burnley will be pretty happy with this start so far. As expected, they are being direct but it is bringing them some joy. Arsenal just need to weather the storm for a bit and settle down.
15:15 , Malik Ouzia
14 mins: Much better from Burnley in the last five minutes. Ashley Westwood finds a bit of space outside the box and curls an early ball in to Barnes, who has peeled off the back of his man to have a free header but there’s a lot to do from that range and he guides it well wide.
15:11 , Malik Ouzia
10 mins: As I write that, a first little warning. Nick Pope pumps a long free-kick into the box and Barnes and White go up together.
Much has been made of the centre-half’s supposed weakness in the air but in fairness, he gets a little nudge from Barnes and neither player wins it cleanly. It’s the Burnley man who is sharpest to the loose ball though and he hooks an effort over the bar.
15:10 , Malik Ouzia
9 mins: Mikel Arteta will be delighted with the way his side have started. This attacking lineup is bossing possession - just a little more incision needed.
15:07 , Malik Ouzia
6 mins: And there is Tierney. Odegaard clips a great ball in behind for the left-back and he takes a great first touch before delivering. His cross is parried away by Pope, only as far as Pepe, who is steaming in, but it comes at him quick and as he tries to nod it back goalwards the ‘keeper is there again.
15:06 , Malik Ouzia
5 mins: With Tomiyasu in the side at right-back, Kieran Tierney has all sorts of licence down the left and that’s going to be a real feature of Arsenal’s play this season you suspect. The Scot is already bombing on down the left.
15:04 , Malik Ouzia
3 mins: Arsenal have made a pretty tidy start here. In terms of how they’re shaping up, Martin Odegaard is playing a little deeper than Emile Smith Rowe but not exactly alongside Thomas Partey, who is the pivot in that midfield.

The teams are on their way out at Burnley. Almost showtime...

Gareth Southgate is in attendance at Turf Moor today, keeping an eye on Bukayo Saka no doubt, but also Nick Pope, Aaron Ramsdale, Ben White and Emile Smith Rowe. Perhaps even Dwight McNeil.

Some more thoughts from Mr Collings...
14:45 , Malik Ouzia
It’s a bold team from Arteta, but personally I like it. Football is about getting your best XI on the pitch and this, I think, is a way for Arteta to do it. Odegaard, Smith Rowe and Partey will be expected to boss the game.

Here’s what Betfair reckons (subject to change)
- Burnley to win: 11/4
- Draw: 12/5
- Arsenal to win: Evens
One-sided history between these two
13:38 , Daniel Gallan
These two teams have met 14 times in the Premier League with Arsenal winning 10 and Burnley just once.
Before the 0-0 draw at Turf Moor last year, Arsenal had won 11 straight games against Burnley scoring 26 goals in the process.
In December 2008 Burnley beat Arsenal 2-0 in the League Cup quarterfinal but were undone by two extra times goals from Tottenham in the second leg of the semi-final.
We’re sticking our necks out and backing an Arsenal win
13:27 , Daniel Gallan
It’s 16th vs 18th but don’t let that fool you. With the elephant sized caveat that Arsenal are capable of making a mess of things against any opponent it is highly unlikely they’ll drop points against Burnley. So, at the risk of igniting our comment section, we’re going with a relatively straightforward away win.
Our predicted lineup
13:14 , Daniel Gallan
We think Thomas Partey will make his first start of the season today.
The midfielder injured his ankle during a pre-season friendly with Chelsea in August and he made his comeback last week against Norwich.
Partey started on the bench for that game - coming on with 30 minutes to go - but he is hoping to start against Burnley.
The Ghanaian will play a key role for Arsenal this season and the club were wary about rushing him back.
“He is there. He has been training in and out this week. His load had to be managed because he was in the early stages of the injury and what he had,” said Arteta.
Arsenal likely XI: Ramsdale; Tomiyasu, White, Gabriel, Tierney; Partey, Lokonga; Pepe, Odegaard, Saka; Aubameyang.
Welcome to it!
13:00 , Daniel Gallan
How are ya? All good? Ready for this one?
It’s an important league game for Arsenal (aren’t they all?) and nothing but three points will do for Mikel Arteta and his team.
They bagged their first win last week and they’re up against a winless team in Burnley. Should be straightforward, but then again, this is Arsenal.
