Cade Cust secures exciting Hull FC reunion with half-back keen to 'prove doubters wrong'
Cade Cust is looking to prove his doubters wrong after signing for Hull FC. The 26-year-old will arrive for pre-season training next month on a two-year deal and admits the opportunity to work with new head coach John Cartwright once again was too good to turn down.
Cust previously worked with Cartwright at NRL club Manly Sea Eagles when the latter was an assistant coach, with the duo now set to reunite in East Yorkshire. Capable of playing in the half-back and hooker positions, Cust offers Hull some further depth to the spine positions and is the club’s ninth new signing for the 2025 season.
He joins fellow overseas players John Asiata, Jordan Rapana, and Aidan Sezer, not to mention domestic additions Jordan Abdull, Amir Bourouh, Zak Hardaker, and Oliver Holmes. Ed Chamberlain also joins the club on a permanent basis after featuring on loan this year.

An Australian native, Cust signed for Wigan Warriors from Manly ahead of the 2022 season and won the Challenge Cup in his first year at the club. He spent two years with the Cherry and Whites, featuring in their Grand Final winning campaign last year, before joining Salford Red Devils and has made over 50 appearances in Super League.
He made his senior NRL debut in 2019, making 27 appearances. He also featured in the Indigenous All-Stars side and is now determined to make his mark at the Black and Whites.
"The opportunity to play under Carty was a no-brainer for me," Cust said on his move to Hull FC. "When he gave me a call, I jumped at it. Now I can't wait to get started and meet everyone involved within the club.
"I feel like I have a few doubters, and getting a chance to prove people wrong is when I thrive. I look forward to setting a tone in pre-season and then into the games ahead. I really cannot wait for the two years ahead and playing a part in helping get the club back on track."
Director of Rugby, Richie Myler, meanwhile, is hoping to get the best out of Cust’s 'prime' years. He added: "Cade will offer us some really impressive depth across some of our key positions in the spine. He’s at a perfect age where he’s got some good experience under his belt in some excellent setups on both sides of the world, but still got prime years ahead of him which we hope to get out of him here in West Hull.
"Utility players are invaluable in modern Rugby League, and alongside his enthusiasm and determination, we’re excited to see what Cade can add to us on the field in 2025."
