Caledonia Gladiators head coach Robbie Peers has been sacked after just seven weeks, following “ongoing challenges” at the East Kilbride club.

Peers and assistant James Hamilton have both left the PlaySport club with immediate effect, and Jonny Bunyan has replaced Peers.

Peers was announced on December 1, replacing former coach Gareth Murray, who was sacked in November.

Gladiators are bottom of Super League Basketball, with two wins in 13 games.

A statement from the club read: “We recognise that there have been a number of changes within the men’s team this season and we are disappointed that some of these haven’t worked out as we had hoped.

"Over the forthcoming days, there will be an opportunity for fans to engage directly with senior members of the club to discuss the plans for the rest of this season, and our longer-term vision.

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank fans for their continued support throughout what has been a challenging period.

"Your loyalty is greatly valued, and we remain committed to building a team and club that reflects the high standards you deserve."

Former points guard Bunyan is stepping up to the role of head coach from club development officer.
