Grinning Callum McGregor reckons he has worked out why Arne Engels has been named Celtic man of the match again - because his DAD is picking the award winner.

It was another brilliant night for the £11m man against Dundee United as he linked up the play well in the Hoops' midfield engine room with Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate netting to send the Scottish Premiership leaders 16 points clear at the summit. It's the second Man of the Match gong for the Belgian international in as many games - having picked up the same award on Celtic TV in the 3-0 victory over St Mirren.

Speaking post-match, Engels admitted he was happy to be showing his best: "I'm trying my best. The most important thing is the three points, we are moving so quickly and the games are coming so quickly that it is really just important to keep what you need to do. I am happy to help the team with that."

McGregor then hyped up Engels' influence stating: "This guy has been fantastic since he walked through the door. A big price tag and a big expectation - but he has handled it so well.

"He is a down to earth kid as well. He just keeps getting stronger and stronger. He is a team player and you need that to be a Celtic player. I am really happy for him. He is making great strides and a top player."

The skipper was then asked to hand over the bottle of champagne to Engels for his latest success. McGregor had his one-liner ready: "I think it's his dad that is picking him."
