Southampton manager Ivan Juric acknowledged earlier this month that Cameron Archer is frustrated at Southampton after being asked about the player's reduced role in the team.

Archer, 23, has started just one match since Russell Martin's replacement took charge. The striker also failed to feature as a substitute in two of their last seven matches after never previously missing a Premier League game this season.

Leeds United have now approached the Saints about the availability of Archer and, despite being knocked back, will monitor the situation as transfer deadline day approaches. The former Aston Villa forward is a player the club have held an interest in over several windows and who they still seemingly believe would improve the team.

Daniel Farke has also recently admitted that he would like to club to add another attacking option. Signings to increase the club's squad depth must, though, also be better the players already in the building.

The Whites were potentially encouraged to contact Southampton from comments Juric made when asked about the player's limited involvement over recent weeks.

After their 5-0 home defeat to Brentford earlier this month, the Daily Echo asked him how Archer has reacted to not starting matches.

"In this moment, everybody is frustrated," Juric replied. "The players that have started, me, my wife. We are frustrated.

"In this moment, I don't think that players can think about themselves. They have to think about the club."

Since then, the Saints manager has acknowledged that Archer needs to work for his chances to play. "I saw one (version of) Cameron in the last 10 days that was very good, very nice," Juric said.

"He did well when he came on against Swansea (in their FA Cup third-round tie). "He has to work, that's it, and he will have his chances."
