Cameroon vs Guinea LIVE!

Cameroon could not get the better of 10-man Guinea in a rather flat start to their latest Africa Cup of Nations campaign. The five-time winners, beaten as hosts on penalties in the semi-finals last time around, fell behind to an early Mohamed Bayo strike in Monday evening's second Group C - AKA the 'Group of Death' - clash in Yamoussoukro.

The Indomitable Lions failed to register a single shot on target in the first half, but got a boost before the break when Guinea's stand-in captain Francois Kamano saw his yellow card for standing on the back of Frank Magri upgraded to red after the referee was told to consult the pitchside monitor by VAR.

Cameroon got their equaliser shortly after the break when Magri headed in an excellent Georges-Kevin Nkoudou cross from close range, but failed to make their numerical advantage count thereafter ahead of Friday' key showdown with defending champions Senegal. Match report

19:33 , George Flood

Cameroon were unable to defeat 10-man Guinea in a frustrating start to their Africa Cup of Nations campaign.

The Indomitable Lions had Frank Magri to thank for ensuring they took a point from their Group C opener in Yamoussoukro on Monday evening, with the Toulouse forward heading in Georges-Kevin Nkoudou's delightful deep left-wing cross from close range early in the second half.

Guinea had earlier gone ahead inside just 10 minutes through Mohamed Bayo, who slotted low beyond Fabrice Ondoa at the second attempt after fierce pressing to force a costly error from Olivier Kemen on the edge of his own box.

Cameroon appealed for a foul that never came after an initial strong save from Ondoa - cousin of Andre Onana, who was not in the squad after his late arrival from Manchester United was further delayed by travel chaos - to deny Bayo and a huge challenge from Harold Moukoudi on Ilaix Moriba.

Cameroon's equalising goal...

Cameroon 1-1 Guinea

18:30 , George Flood

64 mins: A solid punch there from Ondoa under pressure from Jeanvier after Guinea had delivered a free-kick into the Cameroon box.

Cameroon 1-1 Guinea

Cameroon 1-1 Guinea

18:26 , George Flood

59 mins: Smart from substitute Diakite to allow that low effort from Kemen to drift wide of the far post.

GOAL! Cameroon 1-1 Guinea | Frank Magri 51'

18:16 , George Flood

51 mins: The Indomitable Lions are level against the 10 men early in the second half!

A wicked left-wing cross to the back post from the influential Nkoudou is headed down, into the ground and over the despairing grasp of Kone by Magri.

Cameroon strike back with their first effort on target of the entire game.

You'd definitely fancy them to go on and win it from here with that man advantage and so much time left to play.

Cameroon 0-1 Guinea

18:15 , George Flood

49 mins: Cameroon manage to put some pressure on after Magri's cross is seen behind by the impressive Guinea left-back Sylla.

The resulting corner is cleared and the 10 men almost counter.

Cameroon 0-1 Guinea

Back underway in Yamoussoukro, with no changes from either manager just yet.

Cameroon have yet to have a shot on target so far this evening.

Surely that will change against 10 men?

Cameroon 0-1 Guinea

17:59 , George Flood

Guinea lead at half-time in Yamoussoukro thanks to Bayo's early goal, but they are now down to 10 men after Kamano's late dismissal.

Cameroon have been very disappointing indeed thus far but will look to press home their man advantage after the interval.

Cameroon 0-1 Guinea

17:50 , George Flood

47 mins: Hang on a minute, the referee signals that he is going to have a look at that challenge on the pitchside monitor.

It wasn't nice at all, Guinea captain Kamano standing right on the Achilles of Magri.

He's in trouble here...

Cameroon 0-1 Guinea

17:48 , George Flood

45 mins: Into four minutes of added time at the end of this first half.

Guinea's Kamano is booked for standing on the back of Magri, who is in some pain.

That was naughty.

Cameroon 0-1 Guinea

17:46 , George Flood

44 mins: Nkoudou is the source of much of Cameroon's attacking play here and he tries to twist and turn beyond Antoine Conte, only for his heavy touch to go behind.

Another good passing move from Cameroon follows, but Sylla does enough to shield Magri away as Kone comes to collect.

Cameroon 0-1 Guinea

17:44 , George Flood

44 mins: Guinea's turn to break now and Christopher Wooh is very fortunate to avoid a booking for bringing down Ilaix Moriba.

That looked a nailed-on yellow card.

Cameroon 0-1 Guinea

17:43 , George Flood

41 mins: Cameroon are ratcheting up the pressure now after another counter-attack, but Magri's cross towards Nkoudou is overhit.

Diakhaby is now down for Guinea and in need of treatment after taking an elbow from Toko Ekambi.

Cameroon 0-1 Guinea

17:42 , George Flood

40 mins: Jules Ntcham sees a shot blocked after a short corner before Nkoudou's cross to the back post goes behind.

Cameroon 0-1 Guinea

17:41 , George Flood

37 mins: Better football from Cameroon now as a vital intervention from Mouctar Diakhaby stops Zambo Anguissa in his tracks.

A loose pass at the other end from Mory Konate prevents a Guinea attack and Cameroon can then break, with Nkoudou trying to pick out Toko Ekambi in the middle but Julian Jeanvier getting there first.

Cameroon 0-1 Guinea

17:38 , George Flood

35 mins: Morgan Guilavogui's shove on Nkoudou gives Cameroon the chance to sweep in another free-kick delivery from the left.

Nkoudou's powerful low drive to the front post is flicked up and into the hands of Kone.

Cameroon 0-1 Guinea

17:33 , George Flood

30 mins: That's an audacious effort from Guinea's Sekou Sylla, who spots Ondoa off his line and tries a cute little lob that ends up landing on the roof of the net with the goalkeeper back-pedalling in a panic.

Time for a drinks break.

Cameroon 0-1 Guinea

17:28 , George Flood

26 mins: Not too much happening in this game just at the moment.

That is until Magri delivers a speeding cross from the right that is just too far behind Moukoudi.

Cameroon 0-1 Guinea

17:27 , George Flood

Here is that opening goal from Guinea's Mohamed Bayo, who plays his club football in France at Le Havre on loan from Lille.

Was that a foul on Kemen?

The officials didn't think so...

Cameroon 0-1 Guinea

17:23 , George Flood

21 mins: Cameroon forward Frank Magri goes into the back of Francois Kamano, Guinea's stand-in captain, and receives the first yellow card of the game.

That's a few tough fouls on the Saudi-based Kamano now.

Cameroon 0-1 Guinea

17:21 , George Flood

19 mins: A real lack of quality on display from Cameroon at the moment as a decent free-kick opportunity sails harmlessly wide of the back post.

Cameroon 0-1 Guinea

17:21 , George Flood

16 mins: This is a really physical game now with plenty of robust challenges flying in from both sides.

Cameroon 0-1 Guinea

17:18 , George Flood

13 mins: Almost a swift equaliser from the Indomitable Lions!

Skipper Zambo Anguissa heads wide at the back post.

What a chance.

GOAL! Cameroon 0-1 Guinea | Mohamed Bayo 10'

17:11 , George Flood

10 mins: Guinea have the early lead!

Mohamed Bayo is denied by a strong save from Joseph Ondoa, before a superb challenge from Harold Moukoudi on Ilaix Moriba.

Cameroon's Olivier Kemen is then under huge pressure from two players and inexplicably gives it away back in his own box, with Bayo taking his second chance to fire low past Ondoa.

Cameroon are screaming for a foul on Kemen, but they won't get it.

Moukoudi also down.

Cameroon 0-0 Guinea

17:10 , George Flood

8 mins: A quiet game is starting to open up a bit now as a deflected effort from Cameroon is easily gathered by Guinea goalkeeper Ibrahim Kone.

Guinea are quickly back down the other end of the pitch as the tempo continues to increase.

Cameroon 0-0 Guinea

17:09 , George Flood

7 mins: Early chance for Guinea!

A decent free-kick swung in from the right is headed wide of the far post by Mouctar Diakhaby, who did well to reach it ahead of Harold Moukoudi.

Cameroon 0-0 Guinea

17:08 , George Flood

5 mins: This has been a very low-key start indeed.

Physical stuff from both sides though, with Cameroon's Georges-Kevin N'Koudou barged over by Antoine Conte.

Cameroon 0-0 Guinea

17:04 , George Flood

2 mins: A painful early blow there for Guinea and Valencia's Mouctar Diakhaby, who successfully shields the ball out of play for a goal kick and is bashed by stand-in Cameroon captain Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa.

Cameroon 0-0 Guinea

17:03 , George Flood

Cameroon are in their traditional green shirts with red shorts and yellow socks this evening.

Guinea are all in white, meanwhile.

Defending champions Senegal ease to winning start in Group C

Today's opening Group C clash between Senegal and The Gambia saw the perfect start from the defending champions, who ran out 3-0 winners in Yamoussoukro thanks to a brace from Lamine Camara and an early effort from Pape Gueye.

The Gambia saw Cardiff midfielder Ebou Adams sent off just before half-time.

An emphatic early statement in their title defence from the Lions of Teranga, who meet Cameroon in a big clash on Friday.

Guinea without Guirassy with captain Keita on the bench

16:28 , George Flood

So in a surprise from Guinea it turns out that star striker Serhou Guirassy is not fit to feature after all. That's a massive blow.

Captain Naby Keita is only named on the bench, meanwhile, with winger Francois Kamano skippering the team instead.

Anderlecht midfielder Amadou Diawara is suspended and Abdoulaye Toure also misses out through injury.

No Andre Onana in Cameroon squad after travel issues

16:15 , George Flood

So after all that, Andre Onana does not make Cameroon's matchday squad in Yamoussoukro.

Instead it's his cousin Fabrice Ondoa who starts in goal today, with goalkeepers Devis Epassy and Simon Ngapandouetnbu both on the bench.

Karl Toko Ekambi leads the attack alone in the absence of injured captain Vincent Aboubakar, supported by former Tottenham and Burnley winger Georges-Kevin Nkoudou and Toulouse's Frank Magri.

The Indomitable Lions are captained from midfield by Napoli's Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, formerly of Fulham.

Cameroon out to emulate heroes of 1984 back in Ivory Coast

15:46 , George Flood

Rigobert Song, meanwhile, wants Cameroon to embody the spirit of 1984, when the Indomitable Lions memorably lifted the first of their five AFCON titles to date in Ivory Coast.

“There is a history between Cameroon and Cote d’Ivoire," he said.

"We were heroes in 1984, and I think we should not forget the history. We are a family.

"We won our first title here and that’s why we visited the grave of the first president of Cote d’Ivoire when we came here.

“Our goal is to go far in the competition, and why not repeat history and repeat the feat of 1984. We did not come just to participate.”

Diawara: Guinea have great ambitions for AFCON

15:36 , George Flood

Guinea have been knocked out of AFCON in the last 16 for two tournaments in a row now, by Algeria and the Gambia respectively.

However, head coach Kaba Diawara is hopeful that his young squad can thrive in Ivory Coast this month.

“We have great ambition for this competition. We formed a team two years ago and I will be participating in my second time AFCON," he said.

"We know each other well, and I just hope we start the competition well. We have done good preparations, especially on a physical level to be ready for the competition and we will continue to work in order to be ready to compete.

"We have a strong group, with great teams so we must start the competition well to secure a chance of qualifying for the next round."

Song: Injured Aboubakar is a loss but Cameroon are ready

15:23 , George Flood

Here is what Cameroon physician Dr Patrick Fotso Gwabap had to say on injured captain Vincent Aboubakar...

"Aboubakar will continue his preparation under the surveillance of the medical team, and this outcome bodes well for a return to the group in the near future," he said.

"The Indomitable Lions captain - and most experienced player - is maintaining the positive morale and combative spirit which characterise him, and he's set to rigorously follow the health protocols put in place in order to ensure his return to the AFCON, alongside his teammates, as quickly as possible."

At his pre-match press conference, Cameroon boss Rigobert Song said: "The absence of Aboubakar is a loss because he is a leader and has shown his ability for years. The other players are ready.”

Cameroon vs Guinea prediction

15:07 , George Flood

Cameroon have not been in particularly impressive form, drawing a warm-up match with Zambia and they were also held by Libya in a World Cup qualifier in November.

Guinea though will be full of confidence after a friendly win over Nigeria, and they look well capable of causing Cameroon problems in what could be a tight affair.

Draw, 1-1.

Guinea hit by Serhou Guirassy injury scare

15:05 , George Flood

Guinea are captained by former Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita, who now plays his club football back in Germany with Werder Bremen.

There was a major scare for Syli National boss - and former Arsenal and West Ham striker - Kaba Diawara last week, when star forward Serhou Guirassy limped off in the first half of the 2-0 warm-up friendly win over Nigeria in the United Arab Emirates.

The injury was later described as a minor thigh strain that would be monitored, though he is expected to play today.

Only Harry Kane (22) has scored more goals in the Bundesliga so far this season than Stuttgart's Guirassy, who has 19 in just 16 appearances for his club across all competitions this term.

Cameroon without Mbeumo and Choupo-Moting

14:57 , George Flood

Cameroon are also without Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo, who will miss the whole of AFCON after undergoing surgery on an ankle injury last month.

There is also no Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, with the Bayern Munich frontman a shock omission from Rigobert Song's final tournament squad.

No Vincent Aboubakar either initially will pile a lot of pressure on the likes of the Saudi-based Karl Toko Ekambi in attack.

Cameroon dealt Vincent Aboubakar injury blow

14:53 , George Flood

Cameroon were dealt an enormous blow on the eve of the competition on Friday after veteran captain Vincent Aboubakar suffered a thigh injury in training and was subsequently diagnosed with a muscle tear.

The hugely influential Aboubakar is set to miss out against Guinea today, but crucially Cameroon have said that it is not an injury that will rule him out of the tournament altogether.

After today, the Indomitable Lions face a key clash with defending champions Senegal on Friday before travelling to Bouake to face the Gambia next Tuesday in their final Group C game.

Head coach Rigobert Song will be desperate to have the 100-cap Aboubakar back for at least one of those matches.

Will Andre Onana play for Cameroon today?

14:42 , George Flood

It remains to be seen if Andre Onana will play for Cameroon today.

The goalkeeper delayed his exit from Manchester United for this tournament, having resolved his issues following his dramatic early exit from the 2022 World Cup to come back into the international fold.

Onana played the full 90 minutes for United in their 2-2 Premier League draw with Tottenham at Old Trafford last night, after which he has flown straight out to Ivory Coast.

However, reports earlier this afternoon claimed that Onana's flight from the capital Abidjan to Yamoussoukro had been delayed due to bad weather.

The latest updates on social media suggest that Onana has now arrived in Yamoussoukro, but under three hours before kick-off time.

Will he really be in any condition to play two games in 24 hours, especially after such a delayed journey?
