Cardiff CIty loan star Joel Colwill on his Cheltenham Town future, Boxing Day double and Michael Flynn's management
Joel Colwill has revealed he would be happy to remain at Cheltenham Town for the rest of the season after firing his loan team to a Boxing Day triumph.
Cardiff City midfield prospect Colwill struck in the 70th and 83rd minutes to secure a 2-1 comeback win over Crewe Alexandra at the EV Charger Points Stadium and take his goal tally for the season to eight in all competitions.
His loan agreement in the summer was for the full season, but Cardiff boss Omer Riza has suggested that a step up to League One could be beneficial for the 20-year-old during the second half of the campaign.
Robins boss Michael Flynn says he has had no contact from Cardiff about cutting Colwill's loan short and the player seems fully settled in Gloucestershire.
When asked if he wanted to stay, Colwill said: "Yes, I'm playing every minute and enjoying it. I want to be wherever I am playing.
"I haven't heard anything (from Cardiff), so I am just playing football every day, coming in and giving my all."
Colwill has made 25 appearances so far this season, scoring braces against Newport County AFC on his debut, at Rotherham United in the FA Cup first round and now against promotion-chasing Crewe. "Hopefully a hat-trick is coming soon," he joked.
As well as regular first team football, the Welshman is thoroughly enjoying Flynn's management style.
"He's been really good and as a manager, he is very easy to get along with," Colwill said. "His tactics are good and he sets us up in a good way. Training is also good so I have no complaints.
"With academy football you tend to have long breaks, but now it's a game every couple of days and I have loved it. I am happy my body has been able to handle it and I feel good."
Flynn believes a full season of development in League Two will fully prepare him to challenge for Cardiff's first team next season.
"I just want to be playing football, as many games as I can, that's literally all I want this season," Colwill emphasised.
His older brother Rubin, 22, has been a regular for Cardiff this season and the two speak regularly.
"Sometimes it's about football, giving each other tips and things like that," Joel said. "Cardiff are not going as well as us, but hopefully it goes better for them and they can turn it around."
Cardiff's 3-2 Boxing Day defeat at Oxford United left them 23rd in the Championship table, while Cheltenham are 14th in League Two, but only four points off the play-off places and six points off the top three.
Flynn's side play Notts County at home on Sunday before visiting Port Vale on New Year's Day, with Colwill looking to add to his already impressive scoring record.
"I am happy with eight goals and I couldn't have asked for a better way to celebrate Christmas with the two goals on Boxing Day," he said.
"We have shown everyone we can fight and beat the teams who are right up there pushing for promotion and Notts County are another one, so hopefully we can get a similar result.
"We have been in front and let late goals in and we've been behind and scored late goals, but we now understand the importance of not stopping until the final whistle."
