Omer Riza's relationship with Hector Kyprianou goes back to their days together at Leyton Orient.

The Cardiff City manager brought through the Cyprus international during his days with the London club and the Peterborough captain was one of his youth products there.

Riza is keen to lean on his contacts in this window, looking at players he has worked with during his time as England under-17s assistant manager and, it seems, his old clubs.

Football League World report that Cardiff are keen on signing midfielder Kyprianou, however WalesOnline was told that despite an initial enquiry it is likely the 23-year-old will run his contract down with Posh and leave on a free at the end of the campaign.

That probably works in Cardiff's favour. It is an area of their squad in which they are stacked, with two more players — Joel Colwill and Eli King — currently out on loan. With Andy Rinomhota and Joe Ralls seeing their contracts expire in the summer, it could be an area which needs addressing in a few months' time.

Elsewhere, Football Insider claim Cardiff and Preston North End are keeping tabs on teenager Warren Davis. The attacking midfielder, 19, is the cousin of UFC megastar Conor McGregor.

The Drogheda United youngster, who can also play out wide, scored four goals and provided three assists in all competition last season. Sign up to our daily Cardiff City newsletter here.

The Republic of Ireland youth international is contracted to Drogheda until November 2025, but it is reported that there is a buyout clause in his contract.

Admittedly, neither target addresses Cardiff's striker problem. It is understood the Bluebirds are looking to add at least one striker in this window, however movement appears slow on that front.

City have recalled Roko Simic from his loan after a disappointing few months with KV Kortrijk. The Croatia youth international played just four times and suffered an injury which means he hasn't kicked a ball in anger since the beginning of November.

Riza said he will make an assessment on the 21-year-old before deciding the best course of action this month.

“I’m casting a keen eye over him now," Riza said.. "He’s been doing small bits [of training].

“He’s young enough to play in the 21s. He’s able to be selected for us without being in the 25-man squad

"We’ll see how he continues to train, continues to deal with playing at this level, against the players we’ve got first, before he gets any opportunities.”

Simic played 57 times for his old club, RB Salzburg, netting seven goals and providing three assists.
