Omer Riza says he was "unhappy with his own actions" during the South Wales derby incident with Goncalo Franco last weekend but claims he was targeted "three of four" times by the Swansea City player.

The Cardiff City manager was red-carded for his part in the confrontation which saw him enter the field of play to remonstrate with the Portuguese midfielder after he collided with him on the sidelines.

The incident occurred just 48 hours after the death of the Bluebirds' boss' father in an already highly-charged atmosphere at Cardiff City Stadium. Sign up to our daily Cardiff City newsletter here.

Riza was subsequently charged with misconduct by the FA and he is set to learn his fate imminently. Although wanting to keep his counsel on what actually happened with the Swans man, he claims there were "three or four instances" during the match that were aimed at him by Franco.

He also asked for the powers-that-be to show "some compassion" in light of the circumstances surrounding the row.

"I wasn't happy with my own actions if I'm being honest, very uncharacteristic of me," said Riza at his pre-Derby County press conference.

"But sometimes you're fuelled by things that happen. There's three or four instances in the game from Franco that I wasn't happy with, aimed at me."

He added: "I'm not going to divulge what happened. I put down what I felt happened to the FA. Hopefully they'll read it and show some compassion.

"But that's it, I accept whatever decisions are made. We got a good result, 3-0, and we move forwards as quickly as we can.

"I've said from day one what I want to try to do here, whether it's with performances and actions, it's to try and bring a togetherness to the club with fans, the owners, players, staff and the city," he added.

"Hopefully we've done that a little bit again and we can continue to try to grow that energy."
