Carlisle striker who 'gives everything' arrives on loan at Motherwell
Motherwell have signed a striker who ‘gives everything’ after snapping up Luke Armstrong from Carlisle United on loan.
The deal is until the end of this season, and Armstrong is expected to go straight into the squad for today’s Premiership clash at St Johnstone, alongside goalkeeper Ellery Balcombe, who arrived on a similar deal from Brentford.
Armstrong, 28, is a player that Carlisle boss Mike Willliamson didn’t want to lose, but couldn’t guarantee him game-time.
He told the club’s website: “Luke is another we didn’t want to lose, but he wanted more game-time and we couldn’t guarantee him that.
“He is a player who gives everything and he’s a great person, so we respect his wishes to go and play games elsewhere.
“Hopefully he goes there and gets the game-time that he wants, and we wish him all the best.”
Armstrong has netted three times in 24 games for the Cumbrians this season, and provides options up front for the Fir Park side, who have been battered by injuries this season.
The striker came through the youth set-up at Middlesbrough, moved to Birmingham as a youth and had a spell at Cowdenbeath in 2015.
Armstrong moved to Northern Ireland with Blyth Spartans, returned to Middlesbrough, but had loan spells at Gateshead, Accrington Stanley, Salford, Hartlepool and Harrogate before moving to League Two Carlisle in 2024.

Armstrong told Motherwell’s website: “I’m really excited to be here.
“There were other offers on the table, but I felt this one suited me and could get the best out of me as a player.
“The manager really sold me on his vision for the club, and how I could fit into the system, alongside the strikers already in the squad.
“I’m in the prime age of my career, and I felt the challenge of the Scottish Premiership was one that I simply couldn’t miss out on.”
Motherwell boss Stuart Kettlewell said: “We’re delighted to have Luke at the club.
“There have been a lot of clubs competing for Luke’s signature, so to get this over the line, we are extremely pleased.
“Luke is combative, capable of finding pockets of space in the box, an accurate finisher.
“We were looking for a player who held these attributes, and Luke perfectly fit the profile.”
