Carlisle United announce loan signing of Newcastle United defender Charlie McArthur
CARLISLE United have announced the signing of defender Charlie McArthur on loan from Newcastle United until the end of the season.
The 19-year-old defender, who began his career with Kilmarnock, becomes the Blues' eighth signing of the January transfer window.
After making four appearances for the Scottish outfit, McArthur was signed by The Magpies in 2022 and during his spell on Tyneside made appearances in the UEFA Youth League and Vertu Trophy.
McArthur has also represented Scotland at youth level making 16 appearances at both the under 17 and under 19 levels.
Speaking on the club's website about the addition of the young defender for the great of the season, head coach Mike Williamson said: "Charlie is someone who we've watched and we really like.
"We are really thankful to Newcastle for giving us the opportunity to help with his development.
"He's got all the attributes you need to be a top centre-half."
Carlisle United's sporting director, Rob Clarkson added: "Charlie is a really talented centre-back who is highly thought of at Newcastle.
"He is very comfortable on the ball so will suit our style of play.
"We thank Newcastle in allowing us to bring Charlie here until the end of the season."
