Carlisle United boss on 'importance' of loan market
Mike Williamson says the loan market will be “really important” as efforts continue to reshape Carlisle United’s squad.
While the head coach is overhauling his numbers at Brunton Park with permanent signings, the temporary market is also key.
One of United’s six additions so far this month is a loanee – Sheffield Wednesday’s Sean Fusire.
He joins fellow loanee Harrison Biggins (Shrewsbury Town) in the squad.
And with Daniel Adu-Adjei and Dominic Sadi having been recalled by AFC Bournemouth, there is more leeway for Carlisle to include further loanees. Five are allowed in any matchday squad.
Williamson and sporting director Rob Clarkson are eyeing other players on the books of clubs higher up the divisions.
The head coach said: “It’s really important, the loan market.
“Obviously, we've leant on it whilst we've been here with Biggo, Dan and Dom, who've had lots of football, which is important.
“But the chemistry of the squad too has been looked at.
“Rob [at last week’s fans’ forum] spoke about [the fact] he wants to bring in young, hungry players that can be assets for the football club, that can grow with the football club.
“But it's important we also get that balance and that we've got the people, the leaders in the group, the senior players, the ‘cultural architects’, as we call them.
“But predominantly our average age needs to come down and that will translate with energy on the pitch.”
